ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – In a little over 24 hours the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) 2014 Men’s Basketball Championship tips off in the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex (MPSC) in Road Town with eight teams from around the Caribbean looking to be crowned Champion.

“All the teams are here, the Technical Team, the Referees, the FIBA Officials and CBC Executive are all here and everything is coming together nicely,” commented Event Organiser, Mrs. Dawn F. Crabbe-Herbert in an exclusive interview with Virgin Islands News Online yesterday June 29, 2014.

The MPSC has been converted into an NBA-style Arena, decked out with Banners, Flags, TV Cameras and a renovated court that will showcase the high level of play expected.

“It is necessary, if we are going to get into Sports Tourism, to make sure that not just the Technical people, but also the community understand what it means and what is going to actually happen. When you provide a product for the World to see it shows the BVI is up there with the best. The Branding, the Professionalism, the Media arrangements, the Fans expectations, are all an integral part of the product,” she said.

Crabbe-Herbert also went onto say how she hopes that the Fans will come out in numbers to not only support the Host Nation, but also the other Countries.

“Yes, it will be shown around the World, but we are hoping people will come to the games live for what is a once in a lifetime opportunity to witness the action and excitement close up. Come to the Complex and feel it, feel the sweat, hear the roar of the crowd, your heart skipping as the 3 point shots go in and you will be looking at Basketball at a different level,” said Crabbe-Herbert.

The Championships will also give the national team a chance to lift their game to a new level when they face Guyana tomorrow night to conclude the Opening Day.

Whilst there have been a few hiccups over selection and eligibility the Team, which now includes Steve E. Parillon, is settled into their hotel and ready for action. Behind the scenes the Federation is still trying to get resolution over the eligibility clauses in the rules and specifically the definition of who is considered an “International” Player.

The full squad includes Parillon, Leslee J. Smith, Rasheed Cann, Halstead “JR” Chiverton, Randy “Chino” George, Norville “Banana” Carey, Kennedy H. “Poster Boy” Bass, Cadafee “Boss” Freeman, Jovaughn Cameron, Molik Malone, Dione Blyden and Ryan Alfred.

The Head Coach is Keith “88” Malone and he will be assisted by Juan Griles, Mike Niles, Trevor “West” Stevens as well as Brian “Bash” Brewley. The Team Manager is Dave Smith.

Other teams competing include the United States Virgin Islands (USVI), Barbados and Guyana, who are all in the same group as the Virgin Islands, as well as Antigua, St Vincent, Cuba and the Bahamas.

Action begins on Tuesday at 12pm, with the Bahamas playing St Vincent and the first day concludes with the Virgin Islands facing Guyana.

Tickets are on sale today at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex. Day Passes are available for the preliminary round and the championship round of the CBC's flagship event, with this type of ticket enabling fans to watch all games played on a particular day. In the Men's Championship Preliminary Round (July 1-4), a Day Pass grants access to four games for as little as US$30.00 for adults and US$15.00 for children.

The Men's Championship Round (July 5) Day Pass grants access to four games for as little as US$35.00.
Discount ticket packages are also available until Tuesday, July 1st for the whole Men's Championship with a Pass for all games just US$130.00.

Please see schedule of the games below.

too expensive for you, you mean- price is fair, when u can see four games for 30 dollars- the play next door lasts much less time and cost 30 too. plus i hear them say you can get discounted price for just one game.

Samuels was at practice but because of the eligibility rule, where only 1 naturalized player is allowed, he and a number of others could not be put on the roster. On the other hand, Bolo did not show up for practice, and if truth be told, given that this is an international tournament there are other critieria to be eligibilty. The only player who knows when to put that mess aside to play ball is JR. I need not say more,

LOL. Even in a Tortola tournament ayo being recognize as the BVI instead of the VI. USVI hasn't even consider VI for a hundred years as yet while BVI(the originals) been considered the VI since 1642 but hey i just thought it was interested

Blame the constitution of the Sports Federation's - they are the ones who are officially called the BVI Basketball Federation same as the BVI Softball Association , BVI Cricket Association, BVI Football Association etc etc

British Virgin Islands official name is Virgin Islands; Yet United States Virgin Islands (their official name) is allowed to be called Virgin Islands in this tournament.

    IT IS WRONG!!!!!

The government putting in so much money which is our tax paying dollars and they still charging an arm and a leg to get in. Over a 1/2 million I heard from right inside the Ministry responsible for sports.

Now put pen to paper and see if they will balance well after the games?

NDP cronies want to get rich overnight.

government is definitely putting something on this I heard over $100,000. The teams that participate have to pay close to $1000. They are not charging play to win for use of the facility like they do everybody else.

Now they have entry fees, they have the bar, they have charged vendors to be outside and they also have numerous sponsors. NDP is definitely taking care of their own on this one. Even heard

This is so ridiculous that right here in our own country we are being referred to the British Virgin Islands and the Virgin Islands of the United States is being referred to the Virgin Islands. Yall need to fix that. Last time I check our name is the Virgin Islands.
