'VI ready for CBC Championships' - Dawn F. Crabbe-Herbert
“All the teams are here, the Technical Team, the Referees, the FIBA Officials and CBC Executive are all here and everything is coming together nicely,” commented Event Organiser, Mrs. Dawn F. Crabbe-Herbert in an exclusive interview with Virgin Islands News Online yesterday June 29, 2014.
The MPSC has been converted into an NBA-style Arena, decked out with Banners, Flags, TV Cameras and a renovated court that will showcase the high level of play expected.
“It is necessary, if we are going to get into Sports Tourism, to make sure that not just the Technical people, but also the community understand what it means and what is going to actually happen. When you provide a product for the World to see it shows the BVI is up there with the best. The Branding, the Professionalism, the Media arrangements, the Fans expectations, are all an integral part of the product,” she said.
Crabbe-Herbert also went onto say how she hopes that the Fans will come out in numbers to not only support the Host Nation, but also the other Countries.
“Yes, it will be shown around the World, but we are hoping people will come to the games live for what is a once in a lifetime opportunity to witness the action and excitement close up. Come to the Complex and feel it, feel the sweat, hear the roar of the crowd, your heart skipping as the 3 point shots go in and you will be looking at Basketball at a different level,” said Crabbe-Herbert.
The Championships will also give the national team a chance to lift their game to a new level when they face Guyana tomorrow night to conclude the Opening Day.
Whilst there have been a few hiccups over selection and eligibility the Team, which now includes Steve E. Parillon, is settled into their hotel and ready for action. Behind the scenes the Federation is still trying to get resolution over the eligibility clauses in the rules and specifically the definition of who is considered an “International” Player.
The full squad includes Parillon, Leslee J. Smith, Rasheed Cann, Halstead “JR” Chiverton, Randy “Chino” George, Norville “Banana” Carey, Kennedy H. “Poster Boy” Bass, Cadafee “Boss” Freeman, Jovaughn Cameron, Molik Malone, Dione Blyden and Ryan Alfred.
The Head Coach is Keith “88” Malone and he will be assisted by Juan Griles, Mike Niles, Trevor “West” Stevens as well as Brian “Bash” Brewley. The Team Manager is Dave Smith.
Other teams competing include the United States Virgin Islands (USVI), Barbados and Guyana, who are all in the same group as the Virgin Islands, as well as Antigua, St Vincent, Cuba and the Bahamas.
Action begins on Tuesday at 12pm, with the Bahamas playing St Vincent and the first day concludes with the Virgin Islands facing Guyana.

Talking about government waste of money.
I paid the same amount to see games down St. Thomas.
And the last time the tournament was here it wasn't so high ...
We need to get serious of our priorities in this place.
I am upset with Orlando.
check you facts....
She didn't ask the government for nothing..
The s....l boy is born in santo domingo and he dont has papers to play for here!
IT IS WRONG!!!!!
Now put pen to paper and see if they will balance well after the games?
NDP cronies want to get rich overnight.
Now they have entry fees, they have the bar, they have charged vendors to be outside and they also have numerous sponsors. NDP is definitely taking care of their own on this one. Even heard
