GEORGETOWN, Guyana, SA – One of the most prominent and outstanding young basketball players that have been raised in the Virgin Islands, Ray D. Victor, has successfully made it on to the male Guyana team that will be competing in the Caribbean Basketball Championships (CBC) which starts on July 1, 2014 here in the Virgin Islands (VI).

This was officially announced by the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation yesterday June 24, 2014 in the Capital City of Georgetown.

Speaking with one sports enthusiast, basketball referee and journalist Mr Rawle A. Toney in Guyana, this news site was told that Ray D. Victor has been very impressive. “He is good at point, especially on the defense, he’s a certain pick,” said Toney.

When the list was released earlier today June 25, 2014 in Guyana Toney’s words were confirmed.

“Akeem Kanhai, Travis Burnett, Dwayne Suga Roberts, Ryan Gullen, Ryan Stephney, Shelroy Thomas, Dave Causeway, Royston Siland, Shane Webster, Keon Cameron, Chris Williams, Orin Rose, Lawrence Dacosta, Stephan Gillis, Dominic Vincente, Jermaine Slater Randy Richardson, Jason Squires, Nikolai Smith, Keifer Tappin, Kevin Emanuel, Damian Persaud, Tyler Persaud, Kevon Creepy, Delroy James, Darren Collison, Rawle Marshall, Ray D. Victor, Gordon Klaiber, Andre De Florimonte, Steffon Farley, Richard Hall, Judah Ifill, Keron K-MAC Mckenzie and Robert Davis. Head Coach – Mark Agard; Assistant Coach – Darcel Harris; Manager Andrew Hercules,” said Toney as he read from a list.

“Of course he's a sure pick ... along with Andre De Florimonte from the US and former Dallas Mavericks and India Pacers guard Rawle Marshall, Guyana has a solid back court,” added Toney.

In an interview for being featured as Young Professional for June 6, 2014 Victor had informed this news site of his intentions to travel to Guyana to tryout for the team and was very optimistic. It was then that he had also revealed that he was born in Guyana but had migrated at the age of 6 years old with his parents to live in the Virgin Islands.

Meanwhile Jason A. Edwin, born in the United States Virgin Islands (USVI) but raised here in the Virgin Islands, will represent the USVI in the CBC.

Well he is a Guyanese, good pick up for them. I guess he's a BVI naturalized player. Good job to get picked up and we can afford to lose him so it probably works out for both teams.

Edwin on the other hand, your pro days are done come home lol
Just joking is his brother on our team or USVI?

Check the rules for eligibility for teams. Where was he born? Not all about loyalties.

The FEBA rules are that each team can only have one "1" naturalized player, was he expected to wait til the last minute to find out if he would be that 1 and risk not doing what he loves. Give me a break the guy did what he had to do stop questioning his loyalty.

How can any one be loyal when BVIslanders are always so eager to chant "send them home"?

SMDH !!!!!! We don't have a game to win in this Tournament !!

This is what happens when you do last minute planning !!

What other planning could they do? You want them to go back up in their mothers and come back out at Peebles? It's nobody's fault that most of the top BVI players are not BORN in BVI. Many of us have kids born in USVI, US etc. for various reasons. Or people who migrate here at younger ages but their kids don't get BVI status before making 16yrs. CBC has its own rules that says only ONE Naturalized player per team. I guess this is to stop people from trying to Naturalize players just to make the team, as is done in some other International Sports where once you hold the Country Passport you can play. This is not the case with this Tournament hence the issues. Then you have Kleon Penn a born BVIslander who is on contract playing professionally. Despite his love for his hometown, he cannot simply breach his contract just to play in this league when he's playing for a professional team who is in playoffs in their league. So, what can they plan? They had a damn good team last time with the same rules so I don't see what the issue will be now. Last time they had a tourney here they came 2nd to Jamaica in style. We can still put together a fairly decent team and perform. GO BVI!

If he is a naturalized BVIslander and he plays on a team against the Virgin Islands, then we need to consider stripping him of his BVI status.

belonger? who told you he's a belonger? tolians hate other caribbean ppl, think they're better than them. but do you know tortola is the smallest island in the caribbean? it ain't shhhh so stop judging the young man and judge your own little rock for not granting any citizenship/naturalization to persons living in your territory for ages but then when something big goes down you want to act like you know them? and you're mad cause he's playing for who accepted him even though he wasn't raised there. small island mentality - hate it!

And judging from your blog. Other island ppl love Tolans so much LOL
I wouldn't want to Belong where I hate the peeps or the peeps hate me.
Belonger status is about more than playing for the team. It has lots of Belongers who aren't on the team. Get over it all of you.

Jason we wish we had you for the BVI team but unfortunately we don't for you and Kennedy are a gel that is amazing. We will be supporting you when you are not playing against the BVI. The same for you Victor, you all are still ours regardless.
