ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – A radio show caller insisted that the Virgin Islands must not go the way of what he described as the New World Order where same sex marriage is seen as being acceptable.

The United States of America made headlines last week when its Supreme Court ruled that same-sex marriage is legal in all 50 States.

For years, however, same-sex marriage had been legal in a handful of states. This saw persons from one state traveling to states where same-sex marriage was legal in order to solidify their union.

“America is the land of the free and an open society but free to do what? We have to consider the kinds of things they want to make free to do,” said the caller to the Speak Out BVI radio show aired on ZBVI 780 AM last Tuesday June 30, 2015.

“Everyone is so quiet...the leaders are not saying anything about it...the talk show hosts are not saying anything about it,” said the caller.

“When is it going to become a topic? When are we going to start talking about something like that? How come they are not talking about it? Like it is some kind of joke. They need to start talking about it. Are we ever going to talk about it or will it keep happening behind the scenes all the time?” the irate caller asked.

Host of the show Doug Wheatley told the caller that he should raise the question with the Government the next time that they have their call in programme on air. The man said that he had previously called into one of the National Democratic Party radio programmes to raise the issue and he got no response.

Premier and Minister responsible for Tourism, Dr The Honourable D. Orlando Smith had told this news site that the discussion on gay marriages for the VI must to be initiated by groups from within the society. He said Government is not intent on having those discussions anytime soon. He said, however, that no one is prohibited from visiting the Virgin Islands.

If a gay couple were to seek a marriage license in the BVI, what legal means does anyone have to stop them from getting it? The SCOTUS didn't legalize gay marriage, they just made it illegal to stop a gay couple from getting married. So, technically, is not same-sex marriage legal already in the BVI?

New World Order because there's a minority of people that feel like their needs and rights are being ignored and they are being alienated in a place they call home? New World Order because the rapid change of information is reflecting our growth and our broadening understanding of the world we live in? Because we know for a fact that we aren't alone and we can see that whatever happens to the people in place A will definitely affect what happens to the people in place B? New World Order because it's becoming blatant that there are plenty of ways to live a good life?

    I see...

In that case then yes, we should definitely continue beheading adulterers and stoning people who work on the Sabbath. Oh wait, we don't do that anymore, do we? Too barbaric you say? We're spreading God's love now, you say? Except for gay people, you say? Philanderers, thieves, murderers and liars are welcomed in his kingdom to walk his golden streets and drink his wine but not people who only commit the non-crime, of loving someone of the same gender.

    I see...

Quite clearly I don't understand so I'll just go back to observing.

BVI is facing a lot of challenges and I don't think that discussing this as a matter of urgency as what the caller seemed to imply will help solve a lot of pending issues the country has. There are so many human rights violations happening in this country that focused discussion gay marriage and turning a blind eye on the others is hypocritical.

What is the difference between a gay (same sex) marriage and an adulterous marriage? Where is the VI on the latter?

    Hypocrites or not?

I agree. All of these hollier than thou bishops pastors and hypocritical zealots begrudging the gays and lesbos civil union. Who cares? They already doing whatever "sin" it is that concerns them so much. The same "sin" that the zealots commit on a regular basis while they raid the offering tray to buy their bimmer benz and mansion.

Same sex marriage is a potential cash cow that the VI can capitalize on. Bring it on and lets get this third pillar going!

The first world was destroyed for both types of nastiness. Both acts are immoral. So there is no difference. The pot cannot call the kettle black and if you live in a glass house don't throw stones.

This place full of nasty wicked lying hypocritical evil minded people worst than Jezebel and the people of Sodom and Gomorrah. In the last days men will be.....
