VI models Callie Cayonne & Ksenia Shvalova for NY Fashion Week
This year was no different as he went a step further to bring in an international trainer for the local models. Today those efforts have begun to bear fruit as two of Virgin Islands' (VI) own, Callie Cayonne & Ksenia Shvalova, have been selected along with several others from across the Caribbean to participate in this year’s New York Fashion Week.
“It is such a great opportunity for Virgin Islands models to be selected to participate in New York Fashion Week. Fashion designers are approached by hundreds of modeling agencies around the world, so having these designers select our models shows that they are committed to promoting our models. I am happy that Summer Sizzle BVI can offer this opportunity for our local talent,” Mr Donovan told this news site when contacted.
Summer Sizzle BVI, the fashion and lifestyle event, attracts fashion influencers and visitors to the Territory and also creates a platform for aspiring local designers and models to participate and gain exposure from the international media and fashion insiders from around the globe. Summer Sizzle BVI 2014 was held on July 24 – 27, 2014.
Donovan said that top American designers Cesar Galindo, Project Runway star Korto Momolu and Edwing Dangelo have selected models from Summer Sizzle BVI and Cayman Islands Fashion Week for their Spring/Summer 2015 Presentation held during the world famous New York Fashion Week scheduled for Sept 4 – 11.
Callie Cayonne and Ksenia Shvalova from the Virgin Islands are among Toia Sylvester from USVI, Natasha Harper from Guyana, Nicosia Lawson, Alyssa Powell Johnson, Astrid Connolly, Paris Broad, Nadicia Dixon, Hayley Wilhelm from Cayman Islands, all Caribbean countries.
"We are truly honoured that Cesar Galindo has selected models from Summer Sizzle BVI and Cayman Islands Fashion Week to walk in his CZAR by Cesar Galindo Show during New York Fashion Week this season,” stated a release.
It was further stated that Cesar has always featured a multi-cultural cast of models in his show and the fact that he is providing this opportunity to models from the region speaks volumes of his commitment to embracing diversity, in an age when others are not.
“It is an exciting time for young models whose avenues onto the world stage are often limited. Our sincere thanks to Cesar and his team for giving our models this amazing opportunity. Donovan and Jones have also created a platform for Caribbean makeup artists and hairstylists to gain experience and exposure. BVI makeup artist Akeema Crabbe along with Cayman Islands makeup artist Stephanie Ramon and hairstylist Francis Omar were also invited to be a part of the international beauty team at the Cesar Galindo Spring 2015 presentation.
