VI may feel effects of 'Bomb Cyclone' on Monday March 9, 2020
This is according to Dale Destin, Head of the Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services who indicated that when such a weather event occurs, there is usually a rise in swells producing high surf.
The impactful swells will start to reach the shorelines of the Basin this Sunday and are forecast to reach a few metres and break at higher heights on coastlines.
According to Mr Destin, the rise in swells can lead to coastal erosion, flooding of some low lying areas near the coast and rip currents among other effects.
"Conditions are expected to begin impacting the British Virgin Islands from Monday and my last through Thursday. The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services may issue special bulletins during that period," weather reports indicate.
Mr Destin has indicated that this event is not expected to be as powerful as the Bomb Cyclone which occurred earlier this year in January of 2020 but persons should be aware of the hazards that this event may cause.
