ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Montserrat snapped a 17-year winless drought, defeating the BVI 7-0 to take third place in Group 3 of the Caribbean Cup 1st Round on Sunday, September 10, 2012.

The BVI playing with a reshaped starting lineup that included Gregory James in goal, the return of Jevonne Demming in defense and the pushing forward of both Troy Cesar and James Shearman along with Jhon Samuel only finding a place on the subs bench did little to breathe life into what had been a torrid Caribbean Cup adventure for the BVI.

It would only get worse as despite an even first 30 minutes the Montserrat team raced into a 3 nil half time lead, scoring twice in stoppage time at the end of the first 45. Marlon Campbell scored twice and Darryl Roach added the third, before early in the second half and  the lead increasing to 4 -0 courtesy of a strike from Bradley Woods- Garnes, Rushedo Robinson lost his head and received his marching orders for a second bookable offense.

Ellis Remy then put the result well beyond any doubt as he netted twice to make it 6-0 and then an own-goal by Jamaal Sargeant two minutes before the final whistle put a punctuation mark on the score line.

The result meant Montserrat finished in third and the British Virgin Islands last in the four-team group.

Martinique then claimed top spot in the group despite letting a 2 goal advantage slip away.

However a 2-2 draw against Suriname was good enough as although both the hosts and the Suriboys fended with 7 points, Martinique had the better goal difference.

Kevin Parsemain fired Martinique into a 9th minute lead with his tournament-leading 11th goal and Djenhaël Mainge doubled the advantage 19 minutes later. Suriname sliced the deficit in half with a goal from goalkeeper Ronny Clyde Aloema in the 25th minute. Donovan Loswijk equalized dramatically by converting a penalty kick two minutes into second-half injury time.

Both teams had previously earned places in the tournament's next phase with wins in their opening two group games.

In GROUP 1 a four-goal performance by Hector Ramos helped Puerto Rico clinch advancement to the second round with a 9-0 win over Saint Martin at Sylvio Cator Stadium, Haiti. The 22-year-old forward put the Boricuas ahead in the 15th minute and added three more in the 44th, 47th and 82nd minutes.

Joseph Marrero netted a brace (69', 83'), giving him three goals in two games, while Noah Delgado (29'), Cristian Arrieta (45'+1) and Alex Oikkonen (76') got their names on the scoresheet with single tallies.

With maximum points from two first-round games, Puerto Rico will advance to the competition's next phase with a game to spare. Saint Martin was eliminated from contention.

Ramos, who played the full 90 minutes in Puerto Rico's 2-1 friendly loss to Spain, last month, is the group's top scorer with five goals.

In the nightcap, Haiti rallied from a one-goal deficit to defeat Bermuda 3-1 and seal a second-round spot. Bermuda took a 1-0 lead in the 9th minute through Antwan Russel with his second goal in as many games. Haiti responded with three goals during an 11-minute stretch that was ignited by a 30th minute strike from Olrish Saurel. Nine minutes later, Jean-Eudes Maurice gave the Haitians a lead they would never relinquish.

Jean-Philippe Peguero added a third four minutes before the break.

On Tuesday, Haiti and Puerto Rico will square-off for the group title, while Saint Martin and Bermuda will complete their participation in the competition against each other.

When did they last even score a goal? The BVI U-17 let in 54 goals in their competion against 3 teams, the seniors let in how many? This is beyond ridiculous. Out of 206 in the world rankings Montserrat are ranked 206! BVI are ranked 189 - this is for August, wait till September is updated!
