ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The Territory has made history in the captive insurance industry with the appointment of the Marketing Manager of BVI Finance, Ms. Alicia Green to the Executive Board of the International Center for Captive Insurance Education (ICCIE).

The ICCIE is a leading provider of captive insurance education in North America and Ms. Green becomes the first ICCIE alumna to be appointed to the Board in the organisation’s history. Ms. Green received her Associates of Captive Insurance (ACI) from the institution in 2013, bringing the total number of ACI alumni fellows from the Virgin Islands to five.

Ms Greene currently serves as Marketing Manager for BVI Finance, an organisation solely responsible for marketing and promoting the BVI financial services industry. She said that it is an honour to be appointed to an organisation that plays such an important role in the growth and future development of the captives industry.

Ms Green stated, “I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with leaders in the industry to promote the captive business and the BVI’s international offer. I look forward to working with the existing board and utilising my marketing expertise to further grow the organisation.”

The ICCIE organisation was founded in 2004 to develop and educate qualified professionals in order to sustain and grow the captive insurance industry. It was developed in collaboration with the University of Vermont (UVM), and the courses offered through ICCIE are domicile neutral and taught by captive insurance specialists.

The twenty one member board is made up of professionals in the captive world and currently has a membership that include, Bermuda, Cayman and now British Virgin Islands - the regional mecca domiciles for captive solutions.

BVI Finance (formerly the BVI International Finance Centre) is solely responsible for marketing and promoting the BVI financial services industry. More information can be found at www.bvifinance.vg, email info@bvifinance.vg or following BVI Finance on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.

What is the BVI's position on the global stage with regards to captives, and how would this appointment enable BVI to gain a better footing? What are the total captives in BVI?

I checked the website and it looks like my high school daughter did the website. BVi Finance seems like a step down from BVI International Financial Centre...

What the heck is 'captive insurance'? Usually its the insurance industry that captures YOU. With insane premiums
while the regional government legislates mandatory insurance. Is it possible for the insurance customer to hold
insurance captive until it comes to its senses? Why is this market commodity so wildly out of proportion?
    Captivated minds want to know.

This article says very little in terms of the importance of the captive industry to the BVI and even less in relation to how this personal promotion will aid the BVI in upping its standing.

I am sorry but I do not get what in the world is so great about this. Glad for her personal growth but how does this appointment help the VI? What is so significant about it? The insurance industry continues to rape us and now gets to help rape us some more? What the crap is ICCIE anyway? What relevance does it have?

A captive insurance company is an insurance company owned by the company or ent8ty that it is insuring. You may drive your car for 15 years without an accident yet each year you have to pay $1000.00 to an outside insurance company. If you have the money, why not insure yourself and invest that money elsewhere or in another part of your business. In 15 years you could have gained maybe $150,000.00 with a smart investment. Captive is in the sense that you own your own insurance company. The captive insurance is another arm of the BVI financial services industry. The business companies(IBCs) created here can in fact insure themselves. This is another revenue stream for the BVI.
