ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone (AL), in a COVID-19 update this afternoon, Wednesday, October 7, 2020, confirmed that the one remaining positive COVID-19 case in the [British] Virgin Islands has fully recovered.

This, he said, brings the total number of confirmed cases in the territory to 71, with 70 full recoveries and 1 death.

The Minister thanked local health teams as well as the VI community for their cooperation and compliance with COVID-19 suppression guidelines.

The announcement of zero confirmed COVID-19 cases in the VI comes as the territory prepares to reopen its borders to international tourists on December 1, 2020.

Hon Malone warned; however, that no active case in the territory does not mean the VI is in the clear regarding no cases at all.

VI may not be COVID-19 free – Hon Malone suggests

“Let me be candid, the fact that we have no positive cases on record today does not mean that the BVI is COVID-19 free,” he said, while noting that screening and testing will continue to minimise the risk associated with the virus in the territory.

Hon Malone also announced that all businesses will be allowed to open pending approval and a new Curfew Order will be in place from 12:00 midnight to 5:00am daily, starting tomorrow October 8, 2020, for a period of 14 days.

Restriction on the movement of vessels in territorial waters will continue where vessels are expected off the waters by 06:00pm.

The minister said commercial ferries; however, will be allowed to operate up to curfew time.

More details to come.

I really like the fact that they gave all businesses the opportunity. . That's really nice. What I don't like is the big.jump.in moving the curfew from 8 to 12... I think 12 should have been reserved for when the borders open..I think 5am to 10pm would have been more strategic.. Leave room for progress Base on behavior...

Totally agree. Watch the behavior of the bars and club owners this weekend. Lawless territory.

@honestly 5 am to 10 pm curfew would mean that you are locked from 5 in the morning to 10 in the night.

We making great progress. We just need to fix / adjust the reentry plan.. Create a simple, effective and competitive plan, knowing thst the tourism market is a very competitive one...If im going on vacation I will not pick a destination where i have to be lock down for 4 days...Remember, rich people, or people with money dont like complications.. this so call plan is very complicated.. Then I would have one Ferry trip a day from St Thomas To Road Town to accomodate travelers coming through St. Thomas who's destination is BVI since we do not have straight flight from international markets., We dont have to do the ferry every day If its too burdensom, we can do it 3 days a week advertise it so international teavelers know the days...Just my suggestions

Sometimes we believe that Government have all the right answers they are just like us subject to failure. Don't get careless people from 5am to 8pm then now 5am to 12 midnight people please stay vigilant and safe. 5am to 10 or 10:30 would have been better in my opinion. Remember I said my opinion.

The new curfew hour is a move in the right direction by the government and it is up to to population to cooperate and do not reverse the gains that were made recently. Reading the news from the United States and specifically in the White House where many officials and even the President were infected. We must not be carried away and become complacent and behave in a cavalier manner.

At present because of the spike in the number of cases in New York City, the governor was forced to shut down several parts of Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx. Who are we to say that we are special that we will not get Corona Virus. This virus is no respecter of persons. We should be thanking the government for saving lives. However, most of the businesses are focusing on making money and don't care of human lives. If we are not thankful God will remind us as He did with the Israelites when they were freed from Pharaoh in Egypt.
