ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The Virgin Islands is becoming a very political society according to Minister for Education and Culture Hon. Myron V. Walwyn.

During his presentation for the debate on the Social Security Amendment Bill (2013) before the House of Assembly on April 8, 2013, Hon. Walwyn said he would not want to live in a country where the lives of the citizens of the country depend on which politician is the Minister of Health.

“You could very well have a Minister of Health who decides not to do a thing because that person who fell off the scaffold and cracked his skull did not vote for me,” the Minister said.

He called for a level playing field where all legal residents of the Territory would have equal access to proper healthcare.

Heavy fines for breach of confidentiality

Hon. Walwyn also hinted at heavy fines set out in the proposed amendments to the bill where persons breaching confidentiality agreements would be subject to penalties as much as $25,000.

He argued that confidentiality concerns were covered in the bill and pointed out that persons sometimes go to the rum shops and disclose the medical details of some patients.

“A person who discloses information contrary to the provisions of this section commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding $25,000 or a term of imprisonment not exceeding two years or both,” Hon. Walwyn said.

If you feel that we becoming to "Political" then do away with the PARTY system because that is what is causing a divide among our people. I agree with you on that statement because I am not and will never be a PARTY person. I vote individuals whom I think will be efficient in their duties but because of this PARTY system I have really lost faith in our system and no longer even care to vote!

I agree, and that's why Myron can talk like that because he knows full well that he doesn't need a Party in order to get votes. The current system turns our people into beggars. If a VIP supporter or his/her family member has a medical emergency and no insurance, but need overseas care. They are at the mercy of the Minister of Health and Minister of Finance, both of NDP. That is NOT RIGHT! NHI put in place and functioning properly gives everybody a chance to access care here or abroad regardless of their political leanings. I understand what the minister is saying and he's 100% correct.

Those politicians that create that type of environment should be band and chased out of the country. If you as a politician decide to funtion in that way it proves that you aren't deserving of the position in the first places and you intention is about self and not country and its people. You are about destruction and it was correct to not vote for you in the first place!!!!!

We in the VI have been fortunate, I guess there are more at stake now, more money more problems, but that type of evil should never be tolerated!!!!!

I believe that we should elect our politicians at large. That way the BVI on a whole will benefit.

The voting party of the BVI are simply fed up, whether VIP, NDP, PPA, POP, OR PEP, we are looking for people with vision, wisdom and intelligence to take the BVI further into the future. I WILL exercise my right to vote, and chose the best out of the rest, NDP got in 2011 to send VIP the same message that was sent to them in 2003 but was ignored and if NDP AND VIP don't be careful they both could end up warming the opposition bench while another party take control, I strongly doubt VIP going get back in, that means they have an additional 4yrs to come good for 2019.

For come Election Day 2015 we'd probably to ready to take our chances with a stranger (PEP) than our family (VIP) or our friends (NDP).

The parties are not the problem, the people are the problem. Whether you put PEP, or VIP, or NDP back in, the same problems will be there. NDP are right now trying to get things going but are being bashed for it because money is not being spent on the streets like it used to. Does that sound like people who give a s..t about the country? I think not. PEP talking about the BVI is on life support and they have the medicine. They can't tell us how they will move the country forward. The elected Government in 2016 will have to deal with the UK Protocols being in full effect, as to come on stream fully next year, 2015. How will they handle that? Do people realize that? Do voters realize that if you vote VIP or PEP based on promises of 'relief' it's all bull..it because they will have protocols to abide by? Ask them where this extra money coming from. Rubbish. The Government is trying and we should support them, simple.

Myron has no credibility to address such issues he has brought shame to our political culture but I guess it's the result of when the lower glass gets power
