VI arena for local artists is politically driven said Da Jedi
“I’m not speaking about the politicians, it’s the mentality of the people.”
He added that everything is politically driven to the point where “some people don’t like you because the neighborhood you grow up in, your family members, the way you speak, or they just don’t like you for some weird reason, so they don’t listen to your music. I heard a lot of talk with people saying I’m trying to be like Jay-Z and others, I never understood why so much negativity came, but I got over it and I’m still here; Thanks to Jugo [Showtime band member] he really helped me a lot, developed my skills and everything hit from there.
“We as artists have to open our eyes to the outer world, rather than keeping our talent locked up in the BVI; Everything we do is American influenced, the food we eat, the clothes we wear, so our music should be reached out there.”
Apart from that flaw, the local performer indicated, that his music is his life and no matter what he will never stop walking on the path to becoming a legend.
In light of him being a legend, he indicated that an album that he has been working on for the last 2 ½ years, is finally ready to be launched to the public. This is his second album and indicated that the album will drop during the course of next month.
In an album he calls ‘Making of a Legend’ consisting of 14 tracks on CD and 16 via iTunes, he indicated that it speaks about him on a journey to being something great, to being a legend, like his role models.
“The album also speaks about taking the art form back to the basic hip hop, the one I grew up on.”
Instead of putting forward an album with just tracks, as any other albums do, he did something different, where he divided the whole album into two parts; the first part speaks about him as an artist and how he got to where he is and the second part shows his emotional and vulnerable side.
When ask about his album’s name he told this news site, “That is me, it’s a very bold statement, I believe and I know that I have the criteria to be a legend in the game. I’m probably the most seasoned veteran in the game right now [in the VI].”
According to Aaron, what sets him apart from the others, is his talent, his versatility and the way he does his music. “They have soca, calypso, fungi, reggae, zouk and Island pop, I actually feel that I am the only person around here who is doing music the way I am doing it. My music is the raw essential Hip-Hop, the hood Hip-Hop, the real Hip-Hop. The music I was influenced by is the music I bring forward.”
As a young artist, a legend in the making, he said his music is strongly influenced by other legends and his role models. People such as Jayz, Naz, Common, Tupac, Biggie etc, “the new guys listening to the new versions of rap, but the old stuff is the good stuff.”
“I was brought up in the 1990’s era of Hip-Hop and it stayed with me up to now, that’s why I say the making of a legend, because I consider myself in that bracket with my idols, and these people are very influential on my lifestyle and my music, because Hip-Hop was with me since I was younger in elementary school. I always listened to music above my age and I grew up with it and it still remains; I love Hip-Hop.”
In the future, the young artist who was been signing since 2005, said he sees himself making his people proud; his fans, family and country. “What I am doing, I’m doing it for my family, for my mom… I just wanna make my mother happy, she has done so much for us, she worked her [butt] off for us and I just want to see her happy.”
He added that it is his dream to win a Grammy and bring it home to the Virgin Islands and let it sit in a museum for arts. “I wanna bring home a Grammy, a feature award, an MTV award, something big to show I really worked hard.”
His music and album is being produced by Home Grown studios.
In giving advice to young artists in the Virgin Islands he said “do the music that you love, a lot of artists in the game right now, are being side tracked by music that they are not comfortable doing , but doing it just for the money or a little fame, and after what will they do, nothing!... When you’re doing something that is not you, only so long you can tell a lie. That’s why we should keep music pure.”

De Jedi keep it up maybe you'll crack the surface with this album
perhaps you should see how your album is accepted before calling yourself a legend (in the BVI) because, at this point, with all due respect- you are a big frog in a little puddle. The title itself will cause others in the international industry to want to take you down a peg. As far a big venues for putting on shows, why can't some be put on at the cinaplex? they have seating for 500 and a stage could be built forward. Also, some of the most successful albums and events are done in small intimate venues where people can get up close and personal. Just ask some of the world acts who sing in clubs. There is not shame in that. Have patience.
GO GO GO Aaron Friends from last Resort we love you
