VG residents raised concerns about Laundry runoffs
The issue is not new and has been going on for many years according to one resident who did not want to be quoted. It is our newsroom’s understanding that there is now a restaurant in the area that is affected and they have written to the relevant authorities over the years, however, no action has been forthcoming.
Laundry runoff damage environment?
The laundry that is reportedly responsible for the runoff that ends up most often at sea and on the Lee Road has allegedly caused damage to the sea life and reef, however, no one could be reached from the Conservation and Fisheries Department to confirm these reports.
The pipes are believed to run from the laundry down the North Road to St Thomas Bay or what is also known as “Town Bay” by Virgin Gordians.
There appears to be a broken pipe at the junction of North and Lee Road that allows the laundry water runoffs to now be on Lee Road.
Julian Willock, solutions matters
Many residents of Virgin Gorda and Anegada continue to complain that their social and environmental needs continue to be placed on the back burner by both governments.
Political candidate and aspirant Julian Willock who is vying for an At-Large seat in the 2019 general elections has argued that the sister islands have long been ignored. Mr Willock has called for a Town Council system starting first with Virgin Gorda, among many solutions proposed.
