VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI – Showing much fitness and endurance despite their age made for a keen and competitive game of quality basketball when VG Mystics and NW Surfers of Tortola clashed in a 40 plus affair basketball encounter at the Jeffrey Caines Arena in Virgin Gorda on Saturday October 5, 2013.

Hundreds flocked the venue to see the “old boys” do battle in which VG Mystics won by just two points, 42-40, in the opening game of the 40plus tournament.

The high tempo game also saw a super fit Representative for the First District, Hon. Andrew A. Fahie running the ball at good pace during intervals of the game for NW Surfers.

At the end of the game, the man who was described as having the magic finger tips when it came to shooting a three pointer, Mr Alex ‘Chief’ Parillon, walked away with the highest number of points scored for the night; 19 points,  had 1 rebound and 2 blocks.

His team members Franklyn Penn scored 7 points, 1 rebound and 1 steal while Bobb George recorded 6 points, 4 assists and 1 steal.

The top scorer for NW surfers was Dudley Richardson, who had 15 points, 1 rebound and 1 block.

Gregory Romney netted 8 points, pulled 1 rebound, made 3 assists and 5 steals. Patrick Stoutt claimed 5 points, 1 rebound and 2 steals while the other scorer was David Benjamin with 5 points, 1 assist and 1 steal.

The coaches for both sides said the competition for the night was keen and they were looking forward to the upcoming games.

According to Mr Trevor ‘West’ Stephens, the next game is scheduled for Saturday October 19, 2013.
