VG Mom of 6 Shevon A. Findlay is Mrs BVI 2014
“I have been doing pageantry for 14 years and I have been backstage but never on stage for a pageant before,” Mrs Findlay told this news site after being crowned last evening December 18, 2014. She was at the time surrounded by a number of supporters and fans but more especially all six of her children and her husband were present.
“The fact that you can be able to go out there and empower our women is what really give me the urge to go out there and say I can do this, and even though it's geared towards our women I am looking forward for our children as the PTA President of Bregado Flax [Educational Centre] so I am looking forward to working with them and to empowering them from young,” said Mrs Findlay who is climbing the ladder for her PhD in management.
She owns and operates her own business which is a family day care centre in Virgin Gorda - Aqua Roots 24 hour family care.
“Basically you can see from the womb and beyond and that’s actually our slogan, the start of life from the womb and beyond and we want to empower from pregnant mothers to other women married as well as having couples retreats and different sessions that motivate us as a community so that we can build together,” said the newly crowned queen.
Her platform is education ‘the ultimate key for success’.
There will be a fund raising gala slated for Saturday February 28, 2015 at the Multipurpose Complex which caters to a phenomenal dining experience and a showcase that is designed to display nature’s little secret.
“It’s not an easy road – who feels it knows” as aptly put in the song sung by Buju Banton and that road is one that the organizers of the Lifestyle Challenge have been familiar with when they banded together to create the Lifestyle Challenge.
And the result is this year’s comeback has seen its benefits for the four women who participated especially Mrs Findlay. She was last night crowned by the reigning queen of fourteen years Mrs Pearline Williams-Vergeer who finally ended her reign.
At last night’s crowning ceremony Mrs Williams-Vergeer said during her reign the benefits have been tremendous as she was able to lead a lifestyle of example and empowerment to other women and also to represent the Virgin Islands (VI) at international pageants of its kind.
The Mrs. British Virgin Islands Lifestyle Challenge is an exciting process that will uplift, edify and empower married ladies (separated or widowed) and offer them a chance to empower others through their experiences. The challenge is designed for the candidates to align themselves with community projects that will bring awareness, meet specific objectives and educate all towards building a better community and better Virgin Islands.
The Mrs BVI Lifestyle Challenge is a group that was created to offer workshops and sessions for spiritual, psychological and physical growth as they aspire to showcase women at their best and hope to empower and change lives.
The group is one of energetic and enthusiastic individuals who believe in empowerment and encouraging and supporting positive causes and the empowerment of women who are married, separated or widowed.
The goal is to bring messages and programmes of empowerment to woman (and men who enjoy the programmes). “We want to be able to offer recovery, education and healing that create life change. We want to portray life empowerment to be fun, easy and accessible and most important sexy. We have adopted the principles of WIN international and funding from events and sponsorships will support: Right living initiatives, Cure our campuses (anti-bully programme, personal profiling, early identification of children with learning disabilities), International attendance at events to represent the BVI,” said a founding member Mrs Alicia Green.
Annual women’s retreat
In preparation for their mandate, they came together to create this initiative that will not only empower and celebrate women, but will also enhance their spiritual, psychological and physical facets to embrace the total woman.
“You may be asking why women? Why a challenge such as this, why through a pageant? Well women have always been the core of a family and community health and always giving. We believe that this unique blend will help women to maintain and in some cases rebuild self confidence, self esteem and self worth after marriage,” Mrs Green said.
The challenge embraces the candidates’ ability to balance spiritual, psychological and physical well being while managing careers, family and community life.
The finale which will be on February 28, 2015 at the Multipurpose Complex will celebrate these women as they showcase their community involvement and their personal enhancement in swimwear, national costume and evening wear including a short onstage interview.
