VG athletes give “Some Sugar” to fight against Diabetes!
Thirty-five participants turned up in support and Vice President of HLSCC Dr. Anne Monroe, who took part in the race, described the turnout as an excellent one, saying it included runners and walkers of all ages.
The college partnered with the Virgin Gorda Diabetes Association and the Valley Sound Lions Club for the event, which featured educational activities aimed at increasing awareness about the disease and how it can be prevented and treated.
“Our partnership with the Lions Club of Virgin Gorda and the Virgin Gorda Diabetes Association was of great value to the event, as we were able to offer blood sugar and blood pressure screening and collect monetary donations, which we will contribute back to these community organisations,” said Dr. Monroe.
The Tortola leg of the HLSCC Race Against Diabetes, which will be held in collaboration with the BVI Diabetes Association, is slated for Saturday November 12 at the College’s main Campus in Paraquita Bay. The College is encouraging schools, businesses, Government departments and non-governmental organisations to support the fund raising drive.
The final competitive race on Virgin Gorda is slated for Saturday November 5, when the series winners will be declared.
