SPANISH TOWN, Virgin Gorda, VI – With all being set to celebrate the sport fishing industry in the Virgin Islands (VI), the Wahoo Madness, the 18th Fisherman’s Jamboree is ready to go in Spanish Town, Virgin Gorda and among the regular cautions that the committee is insisting on is that fishermen stay within the boundaries of the VI's waters.

“Now it is important that the anglers stay within the boundaries of the BVI waters, it is very important that fishermen be aware of that including all their local licenses have to be up to date,” said Public Relations Officer Mr Verne Wheatley.

Mr Wheatley said that this year they have seen a record number of local fishermen registering for the competition which will be running for a three day period starting on Friday April 18 to Sunday April 20, 2014. He also noted that as is customary the competition has attracted the usual participation of sport fishermen from the spans of the Caribbean Region.

Boats from St. Maarten and from St Thomas and St Croix of the USVI are among the participants also. In previous years there were as many as 21 boats participating. “The Government of the Virgin Islands has assured us too that they are also going to be putting a lot into the sport fishing activities coming the next few years so we are definitely looking forward to that,” said Assistant Tournament Coordinator Mr Donnell Flax.

Mr Flax has and continues to be one of the lead men in coordinating the event and while speaking of the many prizes to be won this year took a moment to salute Ms Grace Vanterpool after whom the 48th Virgin Gorda Easter Festival is being named.

“It is funny that Ms Grace Vanterpool is being named as the Festival activities’ person this year because growing up as a little boy everyday that I was going and fish, Ms Grace is fishing too,” he said noting that it is a perfect combination this year and thinks it would be nothing less than a great celebration this year.

The cash prizes up for grabs this year are in excess of $13k.
