GREAT HARBOUR, Jost van Dyke, VI- With the 2019 Foxy’s HempFest fast approaching, United States Virgin Islands (USVI) Senator Mr Positive T.A. Nelson has been confirmed to once again give an update on the steps being taken in respect to the legalisation of cannabis in the USVI.

According to a press release from organisers of the event slated for July 13, 2019, Mr Nelson will highlight the medical benefits of the plant and what other benefits it can bring to the economy.

Strengthening Bonds

“With the close relationship between the two territories, he feels that it is important that each understand and encourage the other, and he will continue to work to strengthen the bond of respect and family between them,” the release says.

The organisers also noted they have confirmed Minister for Education, Culture, Agriculture, Fisheries, Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr The Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) will also address the Fest as he did in 2018, “with a message that this continues to be an idea that the Government is looking into with some interest.”

At his last address, Hon Wheatley spoke about the benefits of marijuana to the community and the economy, and mentioned that cannabis doesn’t need to be classified as a felony level offence as it currently is.

Thomas Warner, the General Manager of Foxy’s and organiser for the HempFest, further pointed out that this would be a great time for persons to come and express their views about the topic, either for or against.

He emphasised that the event is also about environmental and community issues on Jost van Dyke.

International representation

The release noted there will also be a number of representatives from foreign companies that have already gone through the process that the VI is considering, and they will make themselves available for discussions.

Entertainment will be provided by artiste Luciano from Jamaica, performing his own style of conscious and spiritual reggae in an evening performance in the OutBack at Foxy’s.

There will also be local band Evolution, other artistes and DJs, as well as a fashion show and a Vendor’s Market. Vendors space is free and vendors are invited to contact Mr Thomas Warner for more information at 442 3074.
