USVI man Malaki George turns himself in for 2012 homicide

CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St Thomas, USVI - Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson of the US Virgin Islands Police Department announced this afternoon February 18, 2016 that Malaki George, 31, of Anna’s Retreat turned himself in and was arrested based on a warrant signed by Judge Adam Christian on February 2, 2016.

Mr. George was formally arrested and charged with the September 7, 2012 murder of David Payne.

According to Mr. Jackson, on Friday, September 7, 2012 at roughly 10:30 p.m., the Major Crime Unit had responded to a residence located in Anna’s Retreat where an unresponsive black male was discovered. The victim had sustained multiple gunshot wounds about the body and was later identified as 29-year-old David Payne.

Mr. George was initially charged with two counts of first degree murder, and today received the additional charges of second degree murder, first degree assault, third degree assault, use of a dangerous weapon during the commission of a crime of violence and first degree reckless endangerment.

Unable to make bail of $500,000 Mr. George was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advise-of-rights hearing.
