USVI man gets 8 mths for burglarising post office

CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St Thomas, USVI - District Court Judge Curtis V. Gomez today, July 6, 2017 sentenced Selmo Watts, 34, of St Thomas, US Virgin Islands (USVI) to eight months in prison and three years of supervised release for burglarising a post office, Acting United States Attorney Joycelyn Hewlett announced.

Judge Gomez also ordered Watts to perform 200 hours of community service, and pay a special assessment of $100.

According to court records, during the evening hours of November 27, 2016, Watts broke into the Arturo A. Watlington, Sr. Post Office in Frenchtown and removed at least eight packages. A United States Postal Inspector reviewed video surveillance of Watts entering and exiting the post office. Watts was identified by officers from the Virgin Islands Police Department, who also reviewed the surveillance video.

This case was investigated by the United States Postal Inspection Service and the Virgin Islands Police Department. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Everard E. Potter.
