USVI Governor to ‘consider’ Marijuana Bill

FREDERIKSTED, St Croix, USVI — As Senator Terence ‘Positive’ Nelson continues his incessant push to see the legalisation of some form of marijuana in the US Virgin Islands (USVI), he may find that Governor Kenneth E. Mapp, who Mr Nelson often clashes with on policy issues, is an unlikely ally of his ideas — if not the legislation themselves — as Mr Mapp hints that any measure would be heavily scrutinised by his administration before a final decision to approve or veto.

During a Wednesday (April 19, 2017) press conference held at Government House, the territory’s leader explained his stance on marijuana, also known as Cannabis, to The Consortium.

“It would be something that I think would be considered. I look at all of the bills that arrive on my desk, and I will give it its merits. I will pass it through all of my commissioners and agency heads that has to do with that,” the governor said.

He pinpointed Attorney General Claude E. Walker as someone in his administration who staunchly opposes any form of legalisation, but also referred to those who support the measure, as he highlighted the strong and varying opinions that make up his cabinet — whose opinions would influence Mr Mapp’s final decision.

“The AG is adamant that it violates federal law, and then there are others in the cabinet that believe that it’s not necessarily does violate federal law and it’s something that the Virgin Islands should look at as part of its economic growth, and as part of its revenue streams,” Mr Mapp said.

What Mr Nelson can certainly expect; however, is that the governor would not just brush aside the bill with contempt. “I have always taken the clear and cut position: present me with a bill and I will look at that bill, and I will act based on what I read in the substance of that bill,” Mr Mapp said.

Easy. Buy up all the local home grown ganja. Send it to the marijuana depot for safe storage. Then have 3 to 4 dispensing locations across the island in $5.00 , $10.00_ $15,00 amount. S5_00 - ,$1,00 tax. $10_00 --,$2,00 tax. $15,00 -$3,00 tax. The law to support this will be. Should not be sold to anyone under ,18 yrs. ID is required up on request. No quantity should be sold in access of the $15,00 amt to anyone person. Anyone caught in possession in excesses of the ,$15,00 amt will be committing an offense. Any person found srlling without a permit to do so will be guilty of an offense. Any person exporting or importing would be committing an offense ... U see how easily it can work to benefit all.

Let Bill Gates, and a few billionaires or really people say legalize marijuana because they use it. You see how fast it get legalize. Just like how fast they legalize gayism because they ate rich gays. Anything to benefit poor people get a tight. We have no one of power and authority to represent us. They only know we when its time to vote.
