BRIDGETOWN, Barbados- St Croix, US Virgin Islands-born Hayden Rashidi Walsh Jr captured the first 5-wicket haul of the 2019 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) as Barbados Tridents broke their jinx at Kensington Oval with victory over defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders on September 26, 2019.

The right-handed leg-break bowler, Walsh Jr, captured 5 wickets for 19 runs from his 4 overs to wreck the Trinbago Knight Riders’ batting response to the Tridents’ 192-5 off 20 overs.

Walsh Jr, who lives in Antigua and plays for the US National Cricket Team, accounted for the scalps of danger men Denesh Ramdin, Darren M. Bravo, skipper Kieron A. Pollard and New Zealand international cricketer James D.S. Neesham before completing his five wicket haul with the scalp of Sri Lankan Seekkuge Prasanna.

His 5-wicket haul is the third best bowling figures in CPL history.

Earlier, Walsh Jr had taken a brilliant catch at backward point to dismiss the in-form Lendl M.P. Simmons off the bowling of Harry F. Gurney.

Trinbago Knight Riders were eventually bowled out for 129 off 17.4 overs to hand the Tridents a 63-run victory.

It was Walsh Jr’s first game for the Barbados Tridents in the 2019 Hero CPL as there was no place for him in the team until Nepalese leg-break bowler Sandeep Lamichhane left for national duties.

Duminy scores fastest 50 in CPL history

Earlier, JP Duminy scored the fastest ever Hero CPL half-century after the Tridents won the toss and skipper Jason O. Holder chose to bat first.

The Tridents innings appeared to be falling away when Duminy came to the crease and blasted his way to 65 from just 20 balls – his 50 coming up in a Hero CPL record of just 15 – to propel his team to a winning total.

It was the Barbados Tridents first win in nine games at Kensington Oval and puts them in 4th place in the CPL points table.

The Tridents next play St Kitts & Nevis Patriots on Saturday September 28, 2019 in Barbados.
