'Use your masks'; Allow 'one per household' to go out – Premier
Addressing the Territory via a live broadcast on the Government of the Virgin Islands Facebook page Tuesday night, March 31, 2020, Hon Fahie said his administration would make further announcements on the strategies to be used during the curfew on Wednesday, April 1, 2020.
“We are going to start on a rotation period, but what kind of rotation period it will be, that will be announced tomorrow when we come back to you the people. Tomorrow we are going to make a decision on how we are going to allow persons to get out from District One to Nine, how we will let you out to be able to shop, do banking [transactions].”
He said: “We are encouraging persons who have masks, when they come out, use it. But we are encouraging only one person from a family [to] come to shop. Please don’t bring the children, don’t bring the whole family out to shop, just one person out of every family.”
The Premier underscored that it was imperative to follow these guidelines to assist in crowd control, “so that we can meet the people's needs while saving our people’s lives.”
Supermarkets must take necessary precautions
Hon Fahie also said his government has communicated with supermarket owners to limit the numbers inside their establishments to no more than 20 persons at a time.
They must also sanitise the baskets and carts used by customers to shop “And make sure that all the social distancing and gathering measures that have been put in place by the government is respected.”
Premier Fahie encouraged persons to reach out to all the members of the government via social media and email to share ideas on how the limited time to shop and conduct other business could be used efficiently.
Meanwhile, Governor Augustus J. U. Jaspert said persons in vulnerable categories are to remain home and the plan on how they would receive necessary supplies through home deliveries will be revealed soon.
Household curbside garbage collection would be implemented on designated days to be announced.
Mr Jaspert said from 6:00pm to 6:00am persons are to remain home in the ‘absolute curfew’ and during the daytime hours, from 6:00am to 6:00pm, there will be a 'limited and managed curfew’ in place to allow access to essential supplies and services.
