US visitor pronounced dead today after diving incident

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - An American male visitor was pronounced dead at Peebles Hospital this afternoon, June 25, 2012, after experiencing apparent difficulties while in the water near Sandy Pit.

The deceased, 65, and his wife of Virginia, USA were diving with a local dive company around 10:30 a.m. this morning when he alerted others in the group that he was experiencing difficulties. He was assisted to the surface but by then was unresponsive.

The name of the deceased is being withheld until his family overseas has been notified.

The couple had been staying on Jost Van Dyke since Friday (June 22).

Police continue their investigations into incident.
