YOP & Hoop it Up to host kids’ summer programme

-will feature not only sports but also social activities for children ages 5 to 16

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Youth Outreach Programme (YOP) and the Hoop it Up Foundation will host an All Star Fun Summer Programme divided into two sessions; first from July 17 to August 1, 2014 and from August 11 to August 29, 2014 for children aged 5 to 16 which will see them participating in a number of sporting and recreational activities.

The two summer programme sessions will each take place at U.P.’s Cineplex from 9 am to 4:30 pm and will feature cricket, football, volleyball and basketball and a number of activities for recreation such as bowling, inline skating, arts and craft, board games and video games.

According to one of the organisers of the event, the programme will be tailored to cater for youths divided into two categories – from age 5 to 8 and from 9 to 16.

“We are very excited that we can put together a summer programme that would give youths multiple sports such as volleyball, basketball, cricket, and soccer among other activities. We put together a combination of sporting activities and also social activities such as bowling and skating,” the organiser said.

“One of the things we learn about these summer programmes is that children don’t just want to do sports. They want to feel that there is some kind of fun in summer. So this is a good combination to capture the fun activities like skating and arts and crafts in a social environment along with a sport environment,” said the organiser.

He also explained that the activities cater for a wide range of age groups for the children and that the smaller children will have their own activities separate from the older children. He said that some good and experienced instructors will be conducting the coaching session in the various sports disciplines.

There is a camp fee of $50 per child and this includes a t-shirt. Registration starts this Friday June 27, 2014 and will take place at UP’s Cineplex between the hours of 10:00 – 12.00. Registration will also be taking place at Bobby’s Supermarket and Riteway.

Parents can call 544 0480 or email bvihoopitup@gmail.com for more information on the programme.
