DUFF’S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI – The Willard Wheatley Primary School has emerged victorious out of the seven teams that participated in the first Jelani N. Lettsome memorial bowling tournament hosted by the guidance counseling movement Mentoring Anointed Leaders Everywhere (M.A.L.E.).

The tournament took place at the Save the Seed Energy Centre in Duff’s Bottom on Saturday September 26, 2015 and went from about 3.45 pm to about 7.30 pm.

Jelani N. Lettsome, an 11 year old student of the Joyce Samuel Primary School, died on Wednesday November 19, 2014 after being taken to the Peebles Hospital following complaints of headaches.

Lettsome had been a member of the youth mentorship programme up to the time of his death and was said to be an active and normal child.

“We had an opening ceremony where we presented a Queen bouquet to one of the family members…the great aunt who had been taking care of him and then [another relative] gave a brief remark about the sickness that he had and which he succumbed to,” said President of M.A.L.E. Henderson K. Tittle.

“Then we declared the bowling tournament open and seven teams showed up for the tournament. They are the Willard Wheatley Primary School, Ivan Dawson Primary School, Leonora Delville Primary School, Ebenezer Thomas Primary School, Althea Scatliffe Primary School, Joyce Samuels Primary School and Alexandrina Maduro Primary School,” he said.

Willard Wheatley Primary School came out on top with 418 points and the most strikes came from J’Kol Smith also of the same school.

Each of the seven players of the Willard Wheatley Primary School received an individual trophy and then they collected one for the overall championship.

Smith won himself a voucher redeemable at the Save the Seed Energy Centre bowling alley for bowling games while the whole team also received a voucher for a bowling match.

Mr Tittle said that it was a joy to see fathers showing up in support of their children. “So it was a family affair and we will make it bigger and better,” he said, thanking also all sponsors for supporting the tournament.
