VI Youth Parliament to meet for Third Sitting on June 15, 2016

- Youths to debate Motion on measures to ensure transparency in the process for public expenditure

The re-established Youth Parliament of the Virgin Islands will meet for the third time on June 15, 2016 in its Third Sitting of its First Session.

The session will commence at 4:00 PM at the House of Assembly (HoA) Chambers in Road Town on the main island of Tortola.

According to the Order Paper, the Youth Parliament’s Premier and Minister of Finance ‘Hon’ Sonniel O. Pickering is to move a motion that the House of Assembly of the Virgin Islands agrees to implement measures to ensure transparency in the processes for public expenditure and that officials who do not comply be held personally accountable.

Timely motion

The motion will be timely for the real HoA, especially the ruling National Democratic Party administration who has been accused by the Opposition Virgin Islands Party, civil society, and the media of financial corruption, mismanagement of public funds and conflict of interest.

Although the VI has always had a Youth Parliament going back for years, it appears to be better organised this time around.

The Youth Parliament event on June 15, 2016 is expected to be carried live and also enjoys the full support of both Government and Opposition.

These young people need to come together and form a political party. Safe our country... None of the established two is good for us..I know these young people most of them are very good listeners which is the a good sign of a potentially good leader..

@good people. Good idea but allow our youngsters to creep before they walk. They have great potential and I'm very proud of them but honestly they can't handle everything now. These are critical times and they have to learn how to handle it. The youth parliament is the starting point for them. Young people I love you all keep striving for the top the sky is the limit.

*if they come back, you mean. Those same people who you think are the true talent, most of them, don't even have an interest in their homeland. And you tearing down young people who do? You must be so proud of yourself (note the sarcasm).

It is really amazing to see that people like to make judgement about things they don't know. From my understanding, anyone ages 15-29 are welcomed to join the youth parliament. Instead of uplifting the youth, you want to ridicule, criticize and make hurtful comments (some of them are only in high school). You said they can't construct proper sentences, but if you have ever tuned in to any of their debates, you will see that they are well researched and have well constructed arguments and all of them are educated. It's your choice whether you want to tune in or not but don't shoot the youth down for trying to make a change in their community. It's so despicable to see other grown people act so childish. The youth do something wrong, you complain; they do something right, you still complain. I'll continue to watch and listen to the youth parliament's debates. They have a bright future ahead of them whether or not they choose to pursue a political career. You'll wait till the true talent returns??? The talent and future is right there before your eyes. Embrace them and wish them luck, won't you?!

Its so funny how so many of you complain about Tortola this and Tortola that and we as people need to come as one..what needs to be fixed and who should do what. But when people do come as one, it always some negative energy. Really. the ones with all the negatives I don't see you doing anything but complaining. Majority of you people who bashes tortola not even from Tortola but asked to go back to your homeland you won't cause its twice as worse or if you do want to return back to your homelands you have to save up some more before goin back. Tortola is alot better off than many of these other Caribbean countries. If you don't like it here then go back where you come from or if you're from here and complaining then go to america where bombs and shooters appear from no where and kill people. Where in the world do you people see a fair politician. Just some month ago Dominica had a politician who sex tape with a minor got leak. Check up St. Vincent Jamaica look at Donald trump and all that drama. Y'all people just need to shut up sometimes. The only people who has tortola how it is now is the people who is in it. When people do try, no sort of support always something about what should of been better but is only so little brave enough to try and make a difference and serve for their country to make it a better place. Have a seat to you permits holders and home doubters. People from Jamaica trying to buss their backside to move here and y'all complaining like yall still breast feeding.
