SEA COWS BAY, Tortola, VI- The long rivalry between Virgin Islands (VI) and US Virgin Islands’ (USVI) horse owners continued at the August Tuesday Races at Ellis Thomas Downs in Sea Cows Bay yesterday, August 2, 2016.

But at the end of the eight-race card, it was the home based horse owners who had the lion share of victories, six, while USVI horse owners had only two, but including the Premier’s Cup through St Moose of St Croix.

Results

Race one, the Tortola Classic, went to Sir Whiskey, who covered the 7 furlongs in a time of 1:34 flat ahead of Gottocha Bob. The horse, owned by Alex Lake and the Family Affairs Stables, won the $5,500 purse with a surge around the final bend.

Race two, the Alvera Maduro-Caines Classic, worth $6,000, was won by VI’s Buy Buy Buy in 1:33.3 ahead of The Starving Artist and Mark It A Wynn. Sparky Bee had set off at tremendous pace, but eventually ran out of steam.

Race three, the BVI Sprint Classic, run over 6 ½ furlongs, saw Call Daddy of the USVI take the win ahead of Apollo Sky and Pumped Up Kicks. The winning time was 1:23.4 and the purse $7,000.

Race four, the Melvin Turnbull Classic, with a purse of $6,000 and run over 1 mile, was hotly contested with Returning Rock, owned by One Time For One Time Stables of Tortola, piping Atorrante at the line in a time of 1:48. 2. Top Class Citizen was third and El Indultado fourth.

Race five, the Axel Ritter Special, contested over 1 mile and worth $7,500, saw Crazy Laura of Top Priority Stables on Tortola romp home in a time of 1:48.4 ahead of Rags to Riches.

Race six, the Myron V. Walwyn Classic, run over 1 1/16th mile for a purse of $10,000, went to Honors, also of Family Affairs Stables of Tortola in a time of 1:50 flat. I’m Sensational came second and Bellamy Chief of Top Priority Stables, third.

Race seven, the feature race, was of course won by St Moose, while the final encounter, the Angel ‘Scaratchie’ Malone Memorial, was won by Daboluck of Thomasville Stables, located on Tortola.

Daboluck covered the 5 furlongs in a new course record of 59 flat. The winning purse was $6,500.

Starship Titan was second and How’s A Wynner third.

what l&b needs to do is go and shop, that's a fact now, cause they are at the bottom of the pit, those guys from family affairs needs to get that jockey who rode honors to ride for them, as the owner of stmoose disrespected him yesterday on a day that is one of the biggest race days in the vi, he could of at least give the guy a heads up so he could of find work some where else, which would of probarly been on top of mypalshawn, oh wait, then he might of throw inn st moose, that I guess, makes st moose owner a coward, hope he pay the man for his time coming over here!

You sound really illiterate. Write again in English please. Licks=Licks! Understand?? What difference would the jockey have made? Moose has beaten Pal how many times now?

peanut man u simply cant read, moose beat shawn 2 times here, 1 in rock, but that one don't count, sean was held back inn the gate, so its 2 times, whats your point, tell me, if the moose owner was not concern of mypalshawn he would of let his regular jockey ride him after he decided to not use him, that alone tells u the moose owner respects shawn, its simple maths, that's if u can count, lol!

You are a real doo doo fart brain. What the hell maths has to do with it?? Moose owner was SMART to change his jockey at the last minute. We all know how jockeys can be bought. Which law states the same jockey has to ride him all the time? Yeahhh Moose, you won them again. Set a louses!! Not losers, louses!! Tek dat

You all are so silly. When you switch your regular jockey it simply means you don't want to take the chance of having someone "pay them off". So you switch to someone they don't expect just to be safe. How many times does the Moose have to beat this horse buddy?? Just in case you all didn't notice, HE CAME THIRD. He didn't even come second. Pal is a good B class horse. HE IS NOT IN THE MOOSE'S LEAGUE!!!

lets discuss mypalshawn a little, in Stt governors cup he ran 3rd after coming from 10 horse lengths back, Dought Maker former governors cup champ--Shawn beat him actually he retired him, Giant Valley--former recent Governors Cup Champ 2016, Shawn beat him man to man, the Moose both of the horses I mentioned beat him, so tell me how Shawn is not in his class, tell me why Bo Bo Bates did not let family affairs no he was not using jockey Mr. Hurst, he knows that jockey can get the best out of Shawn, so he Bates kept his jockey hands tied so Shawn yes Shawn would not throw the Moose inn, and that I fully understand on bates side, I await your respond "......." and to Bongo better know as Patrick from Sponge Bob!
                • ............. (04/08/2016, 12:32) Like (11) Dislike (0) Reply
He beat an injured Doughmaker, and a washed up Giant Valley, but could not beat Apollo Sky who was on an 8 month layoff. Giant Valley will probably not win another race. What was the excuse when St. Moose beat Shawn in January?? I understand that Hurst knows the horse better but he would still have gotten beaten. I hope he goes to St. Croix for labor day. Don't get me wrong, I like Shawn, but he's just not in St. Moose's class. He's overrated. Honors is a better horse than My Pal Shawn. He might actually give the Moose a decent challenge. Beating who beat me doesn't count.... lol. You have to beat me yourself.......The Moose has off days every now and then, but as you see, he loves Tola track.

yur guilt hitting u hard "who to blame", everyone there could see that jockey who rode shawn, rode $hit yesterday, boy I wish family affairs knew that guy who usually rides the moose, would of been treated like that from that guy bates, he would of rode shawn and burst st moose a$$, why u think bates did not let him know he was not riding till the officials called riders up, bates have no guts, give the man a chance to make some bucks on one of the biggest horse racing pay day in the vi!

There's a jock shortage goin on? Go your awesome self and stop wanting what others have!! Pal hurtin for a jock now. The affairs got horses and don't have jockeys??!! So let me ask this, the jock you had for this race day wasn't good enough for you but you still hired him??? You are a stupid awesome genius.
