VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI – The Virgin Gorda community has again been thrown into deep shock and mourning following the death of one of their iconic citizens, Dawin George.

According to Police, George, along with some Filipinos, were proceeding to dive for conch yesterday April 3, 2012, when he reportedly complained of having difficulty breathing. His companions, Virgin Islands News Online was told, took him out of the water, however, once on the beach George appeared to have stopped breathing.

The incident reportedly took place around 3 p.m. at Taylor's Bay beach.

The body has since been transported to Peebles Hospital.

George was a long serving employee of Rosewood Little Dix Bay Resort and only retired from there a couple of years ago as an Assistant Food and Beverages Manager.

According to Sister Islands Coordinator Mr. Vincent Wheatley, Mr. George was an iconic figure in the service industry in Virgin Gorda. He also said he knew Mr. George personally and he (George) was also someone pleasant and who was always giving him encouragement.

Mr. Wheatley said the community has once again been hit hard by the news after only last year they lost another iconic figure in Mr. George Tyson.

Tyson, whom the 2011 Virgin Gorda’s Festival Village was named after, drowned on Sunday April 10, 2011 off the coast of Copper Mine Point, Virgin Gorda.

According to sources, Mr. Tyson and a friend were looking for whelks when he apparently slipped and fell into the water. Mr. Tyson could not swim and asked his friend to get help, however, due to the rocky terrain, rescuers were not able to save him in time.

    I am saddened to wake up and read this on vino. Mr. George, was a very good man, always smiling and cheerful. My condolences to his family and many friends. God knows best.

    *Darvin George* is the best man that ever come aross in my life, Darvin took me in at age 2 months to live with his family in North sound Virgin Gorda. Everything i know till this day is all from Darvin George, what ever i ask for he always seen too get it for me, I will never forget the day we use to go fishing and do all the things that father & son will do. when i was 17/18 it had carnival in Tortola and before i left the hose he give me a $100 and also pulled out a pack of condom,& ask me if i know about condom and how important it is to use it, i was so shy that he did that, however i did take it from him, its just showed me the love & bond we had for eachother as Father & son. Even at age 29 2012,i recall a day i was dead broke,dew to lack of work,and i stop by to say hi too him, and he ask me if i had money,and i tell he,*yes i have money* but he known me so much he know i was broke and pulled out his last $20 out of his wallet and give it to me........... 3 weeks ago we was trying to work on a project that would have help him so much & like a Father he's was very surporting in what i was doing, was trying to 100% own a glass bottom boat, after all the high hills i had to clime,i just had 1 more hill to clime,one that i could not have done with out *Darvin* he had so much faith in me that he was going to put up his house as asset to help me get a lone to full fill my dreams, *but as always* a bad mind family member make some noise and had it stop, we he told me the news, he was so braken, i could have seen the teats in his eyes, for the 1st time in his life,he was not in the spot to have help me as he really wanted to. After we talk and he tell me, its a good business and he really hope i pull it together for he told me i will do good at it! what hurt me more is that,i was to go into the Valley at 12:30pm the seam day he pass,to send some money westurn unio,and if i did that,my plans was to stop by and look for him, but i told my self i will saty at work and do it after work, but by 5pm it was way too late, i did not even get to tell him thanks for the 29 years of love & compassion that he have given unto me, & i cant recall if i ever tell him i love him, maybe i did,& really hoping i did! *Darvin* is not the everyday person,he's one of a kind, he was a stranger that too me into his house and feed me no diffrent from his very own children, he never had a son, so i fill that spot very well, the very house i living in he give it to me, after losing my job at *Oil Nut Bay* he he told not to worry about the rent, just keep on the water & light, so i did, but did had planes in paying him the rent as soon as i get it! in september of 2011 i give him so much money i did not had to pay rent till march of 2012, the money i was making he wanted to to use it to work on the glass bottom boat project. He's more that just a good man, & i know no man on earth is perfect, but if they were to be a perfect man on earth, *DARVIN GEORGE* would be that person. He did not mind if your black,white or what ever, all people get the seam love from him *Virgin Gorda* would never have someone like him, he's one of a kind. When i started my charity to help dose with cancer, i could have seen he was very proud of me, for only rich people dose have charity,but for someone like myself who's so broke & want to do a charity for cancer, he was very happy about that! He never even seen me windsure before, but did herd that im one of the best windsurfing in the bvi/caribbean. *Darvin* is my friend,he's my Farther, now he's my angel and that's for life. when you talking about a man, *Darvin* name must come's up sooner or later! *R.I.P* LOVE YOUR ONE & ONLY SON!
