ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Following further investigations by Coordinator of Virgin Islands Search and Rescue (VISAR)‎ Mr John P. Aspinall, it was discovered that the female tourist rushed to Peebles Hospital from Cooper Island last evening March 22, 2015 did not fall off a dock there but rather from a dingy.

According to Mr Aspinall, information from Cooper Island Resort's management is that the woman and another person had left Cooper Island on a dingy for their yacht. He said it was during that time the two occupants fell into the sea.

One of the persons was cut to the back of the head by the propeller of the dingy engine.

"She then went down and the male (other person who was on the dingy) started to scream for help and that's when he was heard and persons rescued the two, taking the woman to the Cooper Island dock where the doctor attended to her by the time we got here," said Mr Aspinall.

"Last night when we got there and inquired what had happened we were told that she fell off the dock," Mr Aspinall stated.

The status of the woman up to press time is not known.

Tourist injured at Cooper Island

- reportedly slipped off a dock & sustained head injuries

COOPER ISLAND, VI - A woman was earlier this evening, March 22, 2015 rushed to Peebles Hospital after reportedly sustaining head injuries due to a fall at a dock on Cooper Island.

Virgin Islands News Online was told that the woman’s condition was suspected to be serious

The incident was confirmed to this news site moments ago by Virgin Islands Search and Rescue (VISAR) past president and current coordinator Mr John P. Aspinall.

According to Mr Aspinall, VISAR responded to a distress call around 7:30 pm but by the time they got there the woman was already pulled from the water and receiving attention from a “good Samaritan”.

"She is a tourist. We are told that the injuries are serious. Her head was already bandaged up by the good Samaritan doctor who happened to be in the right place at the right time…"

Mr Aspinall noted that, based on reports, the doctor was not part of the crew that was with the woman at the time.

Based on information received from persons at the scene, the woman hit her head as she fell from the dock and was submerged for some time.

"She was underwater for quite a long time. We don't know how long but she is not very well, there were head injuries. He (the doctor) had already bandaged her head so we don't really know how serious but she is not very good, we just put her in the ambulance and she should be at Peebles by now," Mr Aspinall stated.
