CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St Thomas, USVI - Tortola’s My Pal Shawn, owned by Alex V. Lake of Family Affair Stables, powered ahead of the field to win yesterday’s, September 6, 2015, feature race at the Clinton E. Phipps racetrack in St Thomas, USVI.

The feature battle was race number five, a one mile open for a purse of $6,000. My Pal Shawn won in a time of 1:38 and 4 over Pumped Up Kicks, How’s a Wynner and Bar Magic.

The winner of the first race of the day, a 7 and a half furlong Class C race, was Bling Bang, followed by Coupon, Unguided Missile. Bling Bang won in a time of 1:35.

Daddy’s Dream was the winner of the second race, a one mile Class E qualifying race, in a time of 1:41 and 4 followed by Grand Family and La Nina W.

Noble Forever was the winner of the third race, a one mile qualifying race, in a time of 1.40 and 1.
Second was Funny Accommodation and Auston Got Even.

Scripture N Verse won race four, a seven furlong race for mares and fillies in a time of 1.23 and 3. Second was All About Faith and third was Bitter Sweet Dream owned by L&B Racing Stables of Tortola.

Speaking to this news site today September 7, 2015, Alex V. Lake, who had in a previous interview predicted a blowout of the field by his horse, was ecstatic about My Pal Shawn’s feature race win. “He didn’t just win. He destroyed the field in Jesus’ name,” he said.

Excitement building ahead of STT Race day

- Tortola's My Pal Shawn expected to blow away the competition, said owner Alex V. Lake

CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St Thomas, USVI – Diminished participation from Tortola horse owners and a race scheduled for St Croix, United States Virgin Islands seem to be doing little to deter the excitement that is building up for the upcoming race at the Clinton E. Phipps Racetrack in St Thomas, USVI on September 6, 2015.

Race one will feature Bitter Sweet Dream owned by L & B Racing Stables of Tortola, Fair Command, All About Faith and Scripture N Verse in a seven furlong race for mares and fillies.

Race two will feature My Pal Shawn owned by Family Affair Racing Stables of Tortola, Brass Note of St Croix, Prince of Speed, Bar Magic, How’s a Wynner and Pumped Up Kicks in a one mile event

Race three will see Bling Bang, Starship Titan, Coupon and Unguided Missile competing in a seven and a half furlong race.

In race four it will be Funny Accommodation, Auston Got Even, Noble Forever and Perfeect Sunday going at it in a one mile Class D qualifying race.

The final race will feature Daddy’s Dream, La Nina W and Grand Family in a one mile Class E qualifying race.

Speaking to this news site, Racing Secretary of the St Thomas Horse Racing Association Kareem 'Pogo' Thompson said that while all is set and ready to go, the crowd is expected to be modest given that there is also a race on St Croix the same day.

He said the horses out of the USVI are ready and prepared for the race meet. Thompson said too that so far there has been no reports of injury of anything like that. He said that the horses from Tortola should be getting to St Thomas by Thursday September 3, 2015.

“The crowd would have been a good crowd but since St Croix not taking part because they have races too that day the crowd will actually thin out,” he said. He noted too that many of the Tortola horse owners might be resting their horses hence the sparse participation in this meet.

Alex V. Lake of Family Affair Racing Stables said that he is expecting My Pal Shawn to obliterate the competition. “We going to do the same thing we did last race…win,” he said confidently with regard to My Pal Shawn. “We will destroy the field, that’s all I will say,” said Lake.
