UPDATE: Tommy Lee wows crowd at concert
Making his entrance on stage with a hobble in his stride, caused by an accident in his home country Jamaica, the artiste immediately adopted his trademark persona and ‘Uncle Deman’ voice, to the excitement of the persons in the crowd.
Following the local acts the warming up of the crowd, the Jamaican artistes Macka Diamond took to the stage and wowed the audience with her usual ‘R-Rated’ performance. She focused her lyrical delivery on the issue of relationships and spoke mainly to the ladies of the audience, instructing them in ‘ways of the world’ with hits like ‘Bun Him’, explaining to women how to have ‘flings’ while covering their tracks so they are not caught. This segment delighted the ladies in the audience as they screamed in affirmation to the ‘advice’ of Macka Diamond.
Tommy Lee in turn gave the crowd what they expected from the artiste whose music features dark and Gothic themes such as demons, death and violence.
The show drew the attention of members of the religious community who believed that the artiste should not have been allowed to perform on the island due to his music and the perceived messages it carried.
The supporting artistes who performed were Sister Joyce and the seven-time Road March winners, the Showtime band. Their performances were both well executed and well received as they gave their all on stage for a considerable duration.

Tommy Lee show no worse than Halloween – Macka Diamond
- Bishop says church does not want to ‘clean up’ evil that artiste brings
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Jamaican dancehall performer Macka Diamond believes reactions from members of the religious community to tonight’s concert are overblown and cites the celebration of Halloween in defence of her controversial compatriot – headline act Tommy Lee Sparta, the self-styled 'Gothic dancehall' artiste.
Bishop John I. Cline, speaking on behalf of the religious community has voiced his concern over the promotion of the show set for tonight, February 1, 2014 at the Festival Village in Road Town, citing aspects of the Jamaican performer’s music as being aligned with satanic glorification.
Speaking with this news site today, Bishop Cline said that he heard from members of at least four churches and they all expressed their concern with the show.
“I heard about it from pastors and members of other churches who were concerned about the content of Tommy Lee’s performance based on history,” said Bishop Cline in an interview with Virgin Islands News Online (VINO).
“Not knowing who he was, I went to the internet and I researched for myself. While Tommy Lee has some regular songs, some of it alludes to demonic [themes],” said the Bishop.
“The church’s position is that we stand against anyone who stands on a stage and declares allegiance to a dark side and to demons,” said the Bishop.
He said that his belief was that the Virgin Islands is a Christian country and “we hold that banner high.”
“We have to free people from demonic forces and we are left to clean up the mess,” he said, adding that prevention is better than cure.
“The authorities should be more vigilant in looking at the people that come in [for shows],” he said.
However, Macka Diamond, whose real name is Charmaine Munroe, said that contrary to the statements by the members of the religious community, the themes that Tommy Lee Sparta adopts are nothing but harmless fun that children and young people find appealing, no different from the celebration of Halloween.
“It is not like that. It is not all that deep,” Diamond, who is in town to perform alongside Tommy Lee Sparta in the show, said, speaking exclusively to Virgin Islands News Online. “It is all fun,” said Macka Diamond. “If the church go down on this [show] then they must go down on Halloween,” said the dancehall performer.
The show's promotion management has advised that gates will be open from 9 pm while the show will start at 10 pm. Tickets are $30 each and the cost of admission at the gate is $40.
