ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Pub has been sold as was firstly and accurately reported by this news site, and the Road Town landmark is now re-opened. The Restaurant and Bar opened its door to the public on Saturday November 3, 2012.

The famous Pub will be open 6 days a week serving breakfast, lunch and dinner and on Sunday for dinner only and happy hour starting at 5 P.M., according to an employee.

‘The Pub’, located in the area of Fort Burt Marina on Tortola, has been sold to a company owned by businessman and Education and Culture Minister Myron V. Walwyn.

The transaction was finalised a few months ago and this was confirmed to this news site by a company spokeswoman.

While the new company owns the business, The PUB, it is unclear if the building itself now belongs to the company of Mr. Wawlyn.

Businessman Walwyn has history in the hospitality industry

For a number of years, through his company MVW International, Mr. Walwyn has operated several established businesses in the Virgin Islands (VI) including the Moorings Mariner Hotel and Restaurant, Cafesito Restaurant, Nexus Café Bar and Grill now Calypso Restaurant and the recently opened Italian Restaurant, Charlie’s.

Mr. Walwyn has studied the hospitality business at Cornell University and served as a manager at one of the oldest hotels in the VI - Treasure Isle - for several years.

Aside from being a businessman in the hospitality sector, Hon. Walwyn is an Attorney at Law.

In 2010 he left the then ruling Virgin Islands Party of Ralph T. O’Neal OBE and joined the then opposition National Democratic Party of now Premier Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith.

He ran for office last year as an At-large NDP candidate and won and subsequently was appointed as Minister for Education and Culture in the Dr Smith Administration.

so, for your vote you expected special treatment? that is what is wrong with these governments. Go through employment instead of asking for favors.

does this mean that Myron will finally clean up the ferry maintanence and oil-polluting area next to the pub? That whole area needs cleaning up. I bet buying the pub has something to do with anticipating development at that end of RT. I hope he keeps the structure pretty true to the original as it is pretty much a landmark at this point.

I wonder how many locals will be hired since I heard that the staff were all fired. I wonder if the staff will resemble those at the Moorings . . .

Give the man a break..He did not fire anyone. They were told to re-apply because it is new management and he is in fact right. Any good and careful business man would know that is the proper thing to do to protect himself. Those who re-applied were hired and the others could not get hired because they did not re-apply.

    Well done Myron.

In this land of opportunity, you have showed the nation what one can accomplish when one takes advantage of those opportunities.

How many BVIslanders does Mr. Walwyn employ in his other businesses? Are the majority BVIslanders?

He talks a good game and the job fair was a great idea, but in practice, I haven't seen him hire or offer to train a whole bunch of our own! Has anyone noticed any ads placed by Mr. Walwyn for staff recruitment? I am not saying he hasn't advertised. I just haven't personally seen any of his ads. Just sayin ...
