UPDATE: Taxi driver in Slaney accident critical
This is according to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), who also said its Road Policing Unit is continuing investigations into the head-on collision.
All five occupants of the taxi bus and the two occupants of the SUV were taken to Peebles Hospital for treatment following the Sunday morning collision.
“The driver of the taxi bus is in critical condition while two of the four passengers, all visitors to the island, are in stable condition. The other two occupants of the taxi bus as well as the one passenger in the SUV were discharged from hospital,” police stated in a press release today, January 16, 2017.
It said police inquiries indicated that the collision took place as the SUV, which was heading west, was attempting to overtake another vehicle. The taxi bus was heading east at the time of the collision.

7 rushed to hospital following accident @ Slaney
Seven persons, including tourists, were rushed to Peebles Hospital following an accident at Slaney, on the main island of Tortola, today January 15, 2017.
The accident, which occurred around 11:45 A.M. involved a black SUV and a silver grey minibus.
It is not clear at this time how the collision occurred but all persons involved, 2 who were in the SUV and 5 in the minibus, were taken to Peebles Hospital.
Four of the passengers that were in the minibus are tourists.
Police are on the scene carrying out their investigations and persons are encouraged to use the bypass road from Manuel Reef to Reef Road.

Did you not read this? The SUV was overtaking. The taxi was just driving. I have seen cars overtake - when things look tight, instead of slowing and returning to their original place like they should, they accelerate to try to make it.

Let's be honest though, it was only a matter of time before a serious accident happened on our roads. The general driving standards are shocking and dangerous. Almost daily you see situations which could end in tragedy. So, please, everyone on the roads, try to drive with due care and attention.
