Sylvan C. Penn’s HC trial to begin tomorrow
- accused of stealing boat & engines
Sylvan Claveleto Penn, a Parham Town, East End resident and businessman is to be tried in the High Court for allegedly obtaining a pecuniary advantage by deception and theft.
Penn appeared in the High Court on June 23, 2015 before Justice Nicola Byer who told him that his trial proper will begin on Thursday June 25, 2015 following the selection of the jury today.
It is alleged that on January 28, 2013 in his hometown, Penn dishonestly obtained for himself a pecuniary advantage, namely $4,000 by falsely representing that he was the owner of a 28ft Cigarette Go-Fast vessel.
In the case of the alleged theft, Penn is accused of stealing a 28ft Cigarette Go-Fast vessel valued $20,000 and two Chevrolets Inboard 350 and 400 Horse Power engines valued at $25,000 and belonging to Floyd Scott, a customer of Penn's business, CD Marine Services.
The thefts were allegedly committed sometime between January 1, 2010 and January 28, 2013.
Penn is to be represented by Attorney At Law Richard Rowe whose services he has secured through legal aid. According to previous reports carried by this news site, the man had told the court when he appeared before Justice Vikki Ann Ellis that he hadn’t any legal representation because those he had approached wanted as much as $15,000 as a deposit, a sum he couldn’t afford. At the time he thought he did not qualify for legal aid representation.
Subsequently, Penn managed to secure legal support via legal aid to which he was required to pay a smaller sum of money.
