ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI –Summer Sizzle BVI 2013 received the assurance of another explosive season of fashion, fun and adventure with an overwhelming response to the “Tick off Session”-the first of four days of activities for the ever growing fashion event this weekend.

The lobby and poolside of Maria’s by the Sea on July 11, 2013 were filled to capacity with patrons, models and designers from across the Caribbean and North America.

In a brief welcome address, Producer of the event Mr Terry Donavan told the gathering that he sees the fashion extravaganza taking prominence in the Caribbean in the matter of a few years as the event has been drawing great response and support globally.

“Summer Sizzle BVI is a fashion destination event with the concept of time, aim, lifestyle and fashion and our goal is to attract visitors from around the globe. We have a vision that in the next couple of years the British Virgin Islands will be the fashion capital in the Caribbean.”

Donovan said he is a firm believer in the vision of Summer Sizzle and what it can do for the destination and the people that have been supporting. He explained that the event is a community effort which stretches from an international arm to home in the VI. “This is where I say a special goodnight to all the models from the BVI.”

This year’s Summer Sizzle has attracted the participation of some ten male models from the Virgin Islands; something Donovan said has been a challenge in years past. “Every year for Summer Sizzle we just have such a hard time finding male models in the BVI, we would find maybe two, this year we found ten male models,” the Producer announced.

The events for the four days have attracted the usual support of the BVI Tourist Board (BVITB). The BVITB was represented by Meslyn M. Allan, who brought greetings and well wishes to those present at last night’s event, and Ms Lynette L. Harrigan, who was very impressed at the variety of supporters for the event.

Summer Sizzle BVI all set for a hot kick off tonight

-Designers from across the country start to pour in

The Producer of Summer Sizzle BVI 2013, Mr Terry Donovan, is very optimistic about the international events that are embodied in the five year old Summer Sizzle event this year and said all plans are fully in place and models and designers are beginning to pour in.

As Mr Donovan was speaking with Virgin Islands News Online earlier today, he was busy welcoming designers from the Caribbean and around the world. “Everything is falling in place so very nicely, this is a line of events that every person on should be a part of,” Donovan commented.

He further said the Summer Sizzle BVI 2013 activities kick off at 7 P.M. today, July 11, 2013 at Maria's by the Sea. “It’s not a formal dress occasion but rather classy resort kind of atmosphere where everyone gets to mingle with the model, designers and the full works.”

Donovan reiterated that the VI stands to be transformed into an international fashion destination as top international designers and some of the newest fashion stars emerge for the 5th annual Summer Sizzle BVI. The stellar production attracts travellers, media personnel, celebrities and influencers from around the globe.

A recent press release from the coordinating body of Summer Sizzle BVI 2013 had indicated that the four-day fashion and lifestyle weekend kicks off on Thursday, July 11 and concludes on Sunday, July 14, 2013. It also stated that the event will be filled with upscale parties, island tours, sailing excursions and the highly anticipated “Global Glamour” Runway Show.

“This year’s schedule of festive events includes the Welcome Culture and Style Party on Thursday, July 11th, at Maria’s By the Sea, the White Fashion Gala with DJ Dre on Friday on July 12th at Scrub Island Resort Spa and Marina, the host hotel of SSBVI; the Summer Sizzle BVI “Global Glamour” Runway Show on Saturday, July 13th at U.P.’s Cineplex Crystal Ballroom on Tortola Island, followed by a VIP After-Party at OPIUM with DJ Bertrum as well as a Sailing Excursion & Beach BBQ on the island of Jost Van Dyke with a Bon Voyage Karaoke Party at Bamboushay Lounge on Sunday, July 14 as the grand finale to the weekend,” the release stated.

Donovan reconfirmed that the “Global Glamour” Runway show will feature collections from designers such as Anya Ayoung Chee, Winner of Project Runway Season 9 from Trinidad; international designers Cesar Galindo, Irini Arakas from PROVA, Andrew Nowell, most recently featured on BET’s Rip the Runway, Uzuri International from Jamaica, Aqua Couture by Roger Gary, Rich Kim, Andrew Harris from Barbados, Koki Love from India, Kristian Loren, Sandro Romans and Poetic Rhythm from St. Kitts and New York. The VI’s very own talented designers- BayRoc Clothing, Mode de Femme and Trefle Designs- will complete the line-up of designers who will be showcased at the event. Music will be provided by DJ Commodore.

The hosts of the Summer Sizzle BVI 2013 Global Glamour Runway show are radio and TV personality and lifestyle specialist, Kenny Burns and local talk show host, Tamia Archibald Gill. Kenny Burns has worked with some of the best in the music industry. He is known for introducing some of the biggest music acts to the Atlanta Market in the early 90’s and has interviewed celebs from Jermaine Dupri to Ludacris. Kenny is working on releasing his latest work; his first book entitled “The Dream Is Real”.
