UPDATE: Steven Winter shot five times - sources
An earlier statement from the Police had said that the victim was uncooperative when being questioned by Police regarding the shooting.
Asked if Winter continues to be uncooperative and if there is any lead in the investigations as at press time today June 25, 2014, Royal Virgin Islands Police Force Public Relations Officer Ms Diane Drayton said that the investigations are ongoing but was not at liberty to divulge any further information.
However this news site was able to confirm from sources close to the matter that Winter suffered five gunshot wounds; three in one hand and two on separate sections of a foot.

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has turned the public for assistance that may lead to the apprehension of a group of men allegedly involved in a violent crime that has left 18 year old Steven Winter suffering for several gunshot wounds.
Winter was shot three times during the early morning hours of Saturday June 14, 2014 when he was allegedly ambushed by a group of men in the Baugher’s Bay area.
Last evening, June 17, 2014 the Public Relations Department of the RVIPF issued an appeal for information about the alleged incident, as they claimed that the victim has been refusing to cooperate with investigating police officers.
“The male victim of a shooting incident early Saturday morning continues to receive treatment for multiple gunshot wounds at Peebles Hospital. The victim, who has been reluctant to share any details, stated that he was on the highway in the vicinity of the Baughers Bay area when he was attacked,” stated the release.
“The RVIPF is asking those who may have witnessed the incident or could lead Police to the identity of the individuals who perpetrated this act to contact detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department by calling the RVIPF access number 311. Crimestoppers in Miami also provides persons wishing to give information anonymously an opportunity to do so by calling 800-TIPS, 800-8477,” it further stated.
A source close to the victim said that based on information they have confirmed about those involved, the victim has every right to fear for his life. “Those are dangerous guys. I guess he (Winter) not speaking because he scared for his life,” the source told this news site.
Efforts to reach close family members of Winter were futile up to press time however other sources have confirmed that the young man is still hospitalized and if not transferred by his family is likely to remain there for an extended period while he recovers.

UPDATE: Steven Winter shot; recovering following surgeries

BAUGHER'S BAY, Tortola, VI - This news site has confirmed with a close relative that the victim of this morning’s shooting is 18 year old Steven Winter of Little Dix Hill, East End, Tortola.
According to the close family member who has request not to be named, Winter, while in a stable condition at the Peebles Hospital, had sustained three gunshot wounds which can have lasting effects.
It is reported that Winter was involved in an incident with a few other persons which resulted in him being ambushed. A fight broke out and a gun believed to have been a M16 was drawn.
It is alleged that as things heated up, one of the unarmed men pulled the gun from another and shot Winter three times: one to a hand, one to his leg and one to his foot.
Winter is said to have undergone a series of surgeries up to press time and is currently in recovery at the Peebles Hospital.

Police confirm shooting in Baugher’s Bay this morning

BAUGHER’S BAY, Tortola, VI - Information from Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) Public Relations Officer Ms Diane Drayton confirmed that someone reported to the Peebles Hospital in the early hours of June 14, 2014 with gunshot wounds.
Initial reports indicated that the person was wounded during a shooting which took place at a social spot in Baugher's Bay on the main island of Tortola.
Activities during last night occurred at Club Opium and Pearla's Bar. According to Opium's management they were not aware of any incident neither in the club nor on the premises.
Efforts by this news site to contact the management of Pearla's Bar were unsuccessful.

These are young people with serious issues that teachers have to deal with on a daily basis. Some have anger issues, some are in gangs, some are in and out of prison ... and nothing is put in place to help them. There is a crisis at the high school.
