UPDATE: Stanley gets 7 months in Jail
This sentence was passed down earlier today, August 17, 2012, by Magistrate Tamia Richards.
Magistrate Richards indicated that in regards to her sentence requirements, she took into consideration the fact that Ms. Stanley is a single mother and a first time offender.
Magistrate Richards also stated that it was evident that Ms. Stanley had no respect for the law of the Virgin Islands, for the fact that she applied to the Labor Department for work permits for the four gentlemen, was denied but still continued with the planning of the event.
In a previous court hearing, the charges brought against the four men were dropped and Je’Neal Furett of St. Thomas, who is the friend of Ms. Stanley, who accompanied her on the vessel from St.Thomas to Tortola, was fined $500.
Asa Ambrister, Andre Baker, Reginald Billins and Alesian Rolle along with Ms. Furett were all originally charged with illegal entry through a port that is not authorised by customs.
In accordance to reports read to the court by Crown Counsel Benjamin, it is alleged that on July 20, 2012, the men arrived in St. Thomas, where they met for the first time with, Ms. Stanley and her friend Ms. Furett, where they then travelled to Tortola via speedboat, and entered the island at Frenchman’s Cay.
The court understood that the men were scheduled to perform at two parties planned by Ms. Stanley on July 20 and 21 at the Drakes Point Hotel, Tortola, dubbed as ‘Ladies night out, Exotic male review’, where they were to be paid $200 each.
It is alleged that prior to the promotion of the said party, Ms. Stanley applied to the Labour Department of the Virgin Islands, requesting for work permits for the defendants, of which she was denied.
The Crown stated that upon being denied, Ms. Stanley went ahead to plan the said party, where she promoted it with posters and flyers.
The Crown further stated that while preparing for the event, Ms. Stanley allegedly made contact with Mr. Billins and informed him that the permits were granted and that everything was ready and ok.
In their personal thoughts to Magistrate Tamia Richards, regarding their charges, the men apologised to the court and the Territory and begged for leniency to return to their home and family.
Mr. Billins had told the court the he had the responsibility for the other guys, and they were deceived. He added that they came with their passports with intentions of entering the country legally, but they were lied to.
Ms. Farret, friend of Mr. Stanley, had informed the court that she came into the situation totally blinded, where she didn’t know what was going on and asked for leniency to return to her home and her family.
Meanwhile, in mitigation to the facts brought to the court, Ms. Stanley had apologized to the Court and the Government of the Virgin Islands for her actions, and begged for mercy and leniency.
In her defense, she told the court that she is a single mother of four children.
