UPDATE: Speaker Willock returns to HoA after brief hospitalisation

DUFF'S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI – Speaker of the Virgin Islands (VI) House of Assembly, Honourable Julian Willock has returned for the 13th Sitting of the Second Session of the Fourth House of Assembly today, July 21, 2020, following a brief period of illness that required hospitalisation.

Expressing gratitude for well wishes and prayers from the VI community, the Speaker thanked past and present members of the House, family, friends, doctors and the public for their words of encouragement.

At yesterday’s July 20, 2020 sitting at the Save the Seed Energy Centre in Duff's Bottom, Tortola, Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) announced that Hon Willock was admitted to Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital in Tortola over the weekend after feeling unwell.

In his announcements today, Speaker Willock said, “While I’m not 100%, your prayers and words of encouragement have been a reservoir of inspiration.”

He also thanked the doctors and staff at the Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital for their care, professionalism and courtesy during his brief stay.

House Speaker Hon Julian Willock hospitalised

Speaker of the House of Assembly (HoA), Honourable Julian Willock has been hospitalised, according to announcements made at today's, June 20, 2020, HoA sitting at the Save the Seed Energy Centre in Duff's Bottom, Tortola.

Hon Willock is said to be in a good state after being admitted to Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital in Tortola over the weekend, complaining of severe stomach pains.

Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1), sending well wishes, said: "We have been made to understand that he is hospitalised and our prayers are with the Speaker because we know in these times of sickness we have to stay closer to God than ever, although we suppose to do that at all times."

Hon Fahie added, "So we know that he may be listening on his hospital bed and we pray that God’s healing power be with him.” 

Deputy Speaker, Honourable Neville A. Smith (AL) first made the announcement that the Speaker was unwell, given his absence from today's Twelfth Sitting of the Second session of the Fourth HoA.

"At this time, I would like to apologise for the Speaker who is not well today and I was saddled with the duties, so I would try my best to do him well," Hon Smith told the House.

    I honestly believe that the time has come to get rid of the old English custom of lawyers, legal professionals etc to be crowned with that stupid white wig on their heads. It is so unbecoming. Get rid of it.
