UPDATE: Smith’s gunshot injuries not life-threatening
Smith was shot in the vicinity of RiteWay Food Markets on Flemming Street in the capital city of Road Town on the main island of Tortola around 8:00pm on April 23, 2015.
According to reports, Smith appeared to be the target of an execution attempt. A bystander was also hit in the leg but was not hospitalised.

Attempted murder
Meanwhile, officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force’s Major Crime Team are classifying last night’s shooting near the intersection of Boobay Drive and Flemming Street as an attempted murder.
Police reported that a number of shell casings were recovered from the scene.
According to a press release from the RVIPF, inquiries suggest that the victim, who had been riding a motor scooter along Boobay Drive, was headed toward Flemming Street when he heard gunfire. He then fled the area and sought refuge in a nearby supermarket.
It said Commissioner of Police David Morris shared his concern especially for the blatant disregard for the safety of the community at this busy time of night.
“This shooting not only caused injury to the victim and to one bystander who reported with a minor wound to the leg, it showed a complete lack of regard for the lives of the many who were in the vicinity at the time of this incident. In this light, no one with information about this incident or those involved should keep silent. We seek all the assistance we can get from the public to quickly apprehend the perpetrators of this crime,” Mr Morris was quoted as stating.
Officers of the Major Crime Team are asking witnesses to last night’s shooting or those who may have information about possible suspects to contact the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 468-9339. Persons can also contact the RVIPF’s access number 311.

I would like to here our hon. Fraser plan to tackle crime. Sometime a lilttle message from our leaders when these kind of things happen will provide a little comfort. All we leaders can't stay silent but you see two ministers run down the hospital and you see the leaders rallying around the youths promising all kind of things. What about the wider public that are in shock from the shooting at a busy hour? Where the government and the governor? They all well tuck and lock up inside they mansion?
