ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards read a drug treatment report from the Sandy Lane Centre that surprised drug accused, Jahsheed Scatliffe when he appeared before the Magistrate’s Court recently .

Magistrate Richards said the report received indicated that Scatliffe initially tested positive for all drugs, including marijuana when he first entered the Centre. Scatliffe reacted with an expression of surprise when he heard this but did not respond immediately.

Scatliffe, 24, and a local college student, were allegedly found with 9 grams of cannabis at Scatliffe Alley on Jaunary 18, 2013. He pleaded guilty to the charge of possession when he previously appeared in court on April 26, 2013. He is represented by Attorney-at-Law, Stacy Abel.

The Magistrate continued reading the report and said there were also signs of alcohol abuse. She noted from the report though, that the defendant was receptive to the treatment process and it also counted him as a good candidate for reform.

Scatliffe later noted that the report made a serious error in stating that he had tested positive for ‘all drugs’ and said this couldn't be true.

Magistrate Richards said Scatliffe should continue with the programme and recommended a further 4-6 weeks for his treatment.

He will return to court on July 19, 2013.

Man found with ganja bag pleads guilty

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – A local college student, who was allegedly found with cannabis, pleaded guilty to possesion when he was brought before the Magistrate's Court today, April 26, 2013.

Jahsheed Scatliffe, 24, pleaded guilty to possession of 9 grams of cannabis after allegedly being found with the substance at Scatliffe Alley in January.

Senior Crown Counsel Valston Graham told the court that a team of Police officers were on mobile patrol at Scatliffe Alley on January 18, 2013 at around 8:30A.M. when they observed a motor vehicle parked in the rear of an establishment.

Officers observed that the driver (identified as the defendant) exited the vehicle and observed he had a transparent bag in his right hand. The police ranks became suspicious and approached the defendant, identifying themselves as Police officers in the process and informing the defendant of their suspicion that he had an unlawful substance in his possession.

The defendant’s right fist was crunched at the time and he was asked to open his fist and Police observed a transparent plastic bag containing a vegetable like substance suspected to be cannabis.

Police then told the defendant the substance was cannabis and cautioned him. The vehicle from which he exited was also searched and 2 Ziploc bags were allegedly found, each bag allegedly contained vegetable like substance.

The accused was arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis and charged. The substance was weighed and amounted to 9 grams which had a street value of $90.

The defendant’s attorney, Stacy Abel, told the court that the defendant is a student of the local college and was one of the primary caretakers of his grandmother.

Though he had a previous conviction as a minor for the same offence, it was requested that the Magistrate take into consideration his upcoming exams at the college before issuing her sentence.

Abel told the court that her client made an error of judgement as he was having a tough time in his life when the offence took place.

After hearing the attorney’s request, Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards said based on the defendant’s guilty plea she would refer him to the Sandy Lane Centre for drug counselling and treatment.

The matter comes up for hearing again on June 14, 2013.

Them price the weed he had on he correct?
Why his 9 grams = up to 90 dollars while the 'stressed manager' with the 'wild friends' 15.5Grams End up 5 bucks short of 50$ ?

I don't know this dude but I seriously hope he get treated fairly. Each case is individual and special in it's own right, but you can clearly see favoritism when it comes to who you are or what you can do for certain people.

I have concluded that there is a different system of justice for some folk our society; based on what you have to offer you will be dealt with differently; the store manager was caught with the same dope BUT his matter is being dealt with in a different manner; yes!!! The manager of the store was arrested for drugs as well BUT the college youth can NOT give away FREE shoes or FREE groceries ....talk that!!!!!!

When really is RECENTLY that the magistrate read the report in court? Was it June 14th? If it was last Friday, 14th June 2014, why wasn't the date published? How the **** could the test results be an error? Someone else's blood perhaps? You just wonder if some of these young people really want help or just playing the a@@ because they have family in high enough places in BVI to help them get preferential treatment? Sad,sad days in this country!
