UPDATE: Ready Committee’s car wash a success despite rain
The Ready Committee, a youth group associated with the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) held a car wash and fun day in the parking lot of the CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank.
Apart from the car wash, there was food on sale and rides for the children who thoroughly enjoyed bouncy castles and water slides.
Speaking to this news site, Vice President of the Ready Committee Kevon S. Lettsome said that the event was a success even though the voter registration exercise that had been planned to be a part of it had to be postponed because of the weather.
“Today we had some bad weather and we got off to a late start. But after the rain stopped we were able to get a productive day and based on the selling of tickets it was very respectable. A lot of the cars came out and we were cleaning cars despite the rain,” he said.
“I will say that overall it was a success. It was a community effort and not just a party effort…the party chipped in but the community played a big part in it. We brought out the rides for the kids and everybody put in a hand and we were well supported,” said Lettsome.
“Even the executive body [of the VIP] chipped in very big and so it was a great success. As we said we are moving in one direction and that is forward. A better day is coming,” he said.
Lettsome said that the voter registration exercise will take place at another event to be announced shortly as it had to be put off due to the rain at yesterday’s event.
“Due to the rain we could not do it. We held off on that but we have a next event coming up shortly so we will do a new press release when we will be launching the voter registration drive,” said Lettsome.
Some of the senior members of the VIP who came out to support the event were Chairman Honourable Julian Fraser RA (R3), Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1), and President of the VIP Carvin Malone.
President of the BVI Cancer Society Gloria A. Fahie was also at the event as well as radio talk show personality Edmund G. Maduro and many others.

-Ready Committee to hold fundraiser and voter registration exercise as it galvanizes youth supporters of the Virgin Islands Party
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The ‘Ready Committee’, a Youth Group associated with the Opposition Virgin Islands Party (VIP) is focused on getting young people to make their voices heard come Election Day and will tomorrow February 28, 2015 have as part of its car wash and fun day a voter registration exercise.
“…the Ready Committee is proud to invite the public to their first fundraiser on Saturday February 28, 2015. Come out and get to know the ‘Ready Committee’ as you get your car washed and enjoy some good music,” said a press release from the youth organization.
The ‘Ready Committee’ encouraged persons to bring out the entire family as there will be entertainment for all ages. “You can look forward to a bouncy fun house for the kids, local food for sale, a dunk tank and much more fun.”
This event will be held in the CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank parking lot in Road Town from 10 AM- 6 PM.
“The members of the ‘Ready Committee’ ask that persons use this opportunity to find out more about the organisation including how to join,” said the release.
President of the ‘Ready Committee’ Rajah A. Smith encouraged all to bring along the entire family “as it’s going to be a family filled event and at the same time you can have your car washed.” Mr. Smith said tickets are still available for the car wash portion and cars are $20.00 and SUVs are $25.00.
The group is named ‘Ready Committee’ because they are ready to rally in the support of the VIP. The goal of this organization is to raise the issues that face young people of the Virgin Islands directly such as jobs, education, crime, and entrepreneurship.
In an invited comment, Public Relations Officer of the Ready Committee Aashaud D. L. Lewis said that the event is much more than a car wash and fun day. “We will be raising funds to do more committee related events and to do some charitable work and to help out in the community. We will also be donating part of the proceeds to the BVI Cancer Society. It is going to be a lot of fun,” said Lewis.
He said too that the primary aspect of the day’s events would be the voter registration exercise which he said aims towards getting young people to be registered and ready for voting.
“It is important to vote because we as youths are the next generation. If we continue to just sit down and sit back and do nothing or say nothing, nothing won’t happen. So we are encouraging the youths to come out and get registered. Every vote counts. Your one vote might be the decision vote,” he said.

1. Limited resources and 2. over population. Eg electricity, water, internet, jobs. The result, crime unmanaged, people stealing food to feed family, organizations begging for food to feed families (thanks for helping to feed families). These are foreign traits for the BVI but 3 years of the current administration this dysfunction has been embraced and defended as normal. Everyone here whether you from here or not need to stop this dysfunction and reject this. You didn't leave your home for this.
3. Poor management. The current administration got their chance to run the country. Compare then to now.
4. No balance. Every so weeks or so big bacanal on a social site. Who from here vs who aren't from here. Who black vs who white. Are you not sick of this? Why were we able to peacefully co exist years ago? Has an unbalance been struck? Has the pendulum swung and remained in one direction? Yes to these questions. Well it needs to get fixed and balance restored. How can the country move forward when we are at war with each other?
From an objective view VIP has done the better job on the above. Poverty and victimization were foreign under their leadership. Respect flourished. Balance was maintained.
Translate this to British Virgin Islands then we are talking about the quality of life and why it is so vital that no one is overlooked. What is the sense of living in palatial abode if you can't sit a night out in peace having dinner without worrying about them. Spending more money on security than you do on vacation. Doesn't it make more sense to step in like Ford did and make sure the quality of life here is improved?
blog all you want Myran, Schaki Myran Priv Sec etc the facts remains the people want NDP out!!!
.
Success what? Nobody taking these guys serious other than the blind VIP supporters wh would vote for them even if they had dog and cat running for them. This is our Territory and its not a joke. We dont want VIP. Nrither the adults or youth over there saying anything with sense.
