HORSE PATH, Tortola, VI- Investigators at the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force have confirmed that a decomposed body discovered yesterday, Friday, July 3, 2020, in the Horse Path area, is that of missing man and Government House Landscaper Junior Peters.

While the investigations are still ongoing to ascertain the cause of death, RVIPF is appealing to anyone who may have information pertaining to Mr Peter’s disappearance to contact Detective Inspector Vernon Larocque directly on 368-9809; or the Major Crime Investigation Team on 368-5682.

Meanwhile, Governor of the Virgin Islands (VI) H.E. Augustus J.U. Jaspert has since released a statement following the identification of the body.

"It was with great sadness that we learned of the tragic death of our colleague and dear friend, Junior Peters. My family and I, all of the staff at Government House and the Governor’s Office are devastated at the news."

A well loved team member - Gov Jaspert

He said Junior was a well-loved member of the team and a dedicated public officer working on the premises, who did an amazing job beautifying the gardens at Government House and ensuring that all guests at functions felt welcomed.

"He was simply a wonderful man. Junior was kind and caring, a friend to everyone he met and left anyone he spoke to with a smile on their face," Mr Jaspert said.

"Our deepest condolences and prayers go to Junior’s family and his many friends.  Everyone who knew Junior has lost a very special person and we will all miss him."

Body believed to be that of Junior Peters found

- Jamaican was last seen on Saturday, June 27, 2020

HORSE PATH, Tortola, VI- Some time before 5:00 pm today, July 3, 2020, a body believed to be that of missing man, Junior Peters, 50, of Jamaica, residing in Carrot Bay, was found in the Horse Path area, in the vicinity of where he was last seen on Saturday, June 27, 2020.

The decomposing body was reportedly retrieved in some bushes down a hill from where the man was last seen conducting landscaping work.

Police Commissioner Mr Michael B. Matthews confirmed to Virgin Islands News Online the discovery of a body, which has since been removed from the scene.

"I can confirm that sadly a body has been found this afternoon during the ongoing search at Horse Path following a decision earlier today to widen the search further and remove scrub and bush at a specific location close to where our missing person was last seen," Mr Matthews said.

The Police Commissioner said a formal identification is still to take place "but my thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Mr Peters."

More details to follow.

The news said that the body was retrieved in some bushes down a hill from where the man was last seen conducting landscaping work. I have to ask, where was the police searching, or was they searching at all. If the public had not gotten involved in the search would he have been found? I am thinking the next time someone goes missing let the public do the search.

You think its that easy to search through bushes looking for someone? I am sure they found him when they did because by then his decomposing body wouldve started to smell. Condolences to the family!

It is the responsibility of the Police to make sure they have the right clothing, equipment and support to do their job properly as they are paid to do. They could use machete, strimmer, drones, dogs. The man could have been still breathing when they searched. This was very, very poor Police work. My heart goes out to the family who have been badly let down.

Where you get this thing from but you hope he sleep in peace? Do you think that he will be tossing and turning in his sleep in the grave? The Bible says that the dead knows nothing. If some of us educate ourselves about the state of the dead some of us wouldn't be on here and throughout the world talking nonsense but you hope he rests in peace!

Meanwhile...condolences to the Family of well-beloved junior.

Another Government House employee went missing before, something not right there. Hope unbiased investigation takes place.

RIP Junior. I hope they investigate fully.

We know a proper investigation won’t take place.

No justice for Junior we know that.

Why police not find him a week ago?!!

Instead of concluding that he was murdered (which I agree is a possibility), I considered that he could have hurt himself on the job, tripped, fell, couldn't get help soon enough... anything could have happened. He was there to prune a tree, correct? Which means he was working with sharp objects. Anything is possible with him being found so close to the site. My prayers go out to his loved ones at this time.

There is no word to express.(maybe there is)We searched and searched but he was already gone. We don't know what happen and we might never know. One thing for sure there is a funeral to plan. (tear tears). In the midst of crisis the public pulled together and supported the family. Big up to all who helped. Special shout out to the Jamaican Association who came out in numbers to support the family. Don't know his faith but trust his family will be comforted. Remember him by following his good example and do learn from his flaw. Good Bye Junior, Cucumber juice will never be the same for me and when I drink you will be remembered.

This story is very disappointing. Junior was working at the site on Saturday, the news came out that he was missing on the following Monday. Police should have asked the public for help with the search right away as he could have possibly been alive then and lay there suffering from his wounds. A week is a long long time. I pray that the next time someone should go missing that more effort is put into the search. What about the search dogs? Are these dogs only trained to search for drugs as someone said? There is room for improvement from hereon. Let's leave the speculation until the results of the autopsy report become available.

I feel the pain of the family. I know that the Governor's office will do all in their power to get Junior back home to his family and lay him down to rest. What a pleasant young man. I am blessed to have had the opportunity to have known him.

    1. To be it was not a good effort on the police with the search
    2. Even if he fell and hit his while falling, there's a high chance he should of been able to crawl out from the location. Seeing from the little video clip he was down a good distance so to say he fell im going to rule that out.

    3. This can be solve if it's a murder and to me easy too. But would take time.
Let's look at the evidence given.
    I. He was seen shortly before all tools and machine was found.
II. His cell phone record should be requested by the police. Then he all calls made and text to his number.
The most frequent ones get those records as well.
Then check the cell phone towers those numbers was pinning off of then. Then the rest is history

However I have to ask these talkers and know all People, this. When was Junior last seen and when was it first reported to the Police .

I grew up with Junior. He is on of the sweetest person you could have meet and be around. To know that someone took his life and it took the police a week to find his body, leave me with a lot of unanswered questions. If someone is working on your property and left there tools ,wouldn’t you try to find out what the heck happened? If your staff goes missing, how long does it take for a supervisor to notice? Why wasn’t the bushes behind the property the first place they search, after searching the property? One person claimed it was another Jamaican killed him. Jamaican are not all killers. The killer could be anyone. Let start an investigation with outside government investigators, to avoid corruption. The first people to be interviewed should the people who live on that property. Then fellow employees, followed by friends and family. We are so quick to jump to conclusion. The fact of the matter is someone killed Junior Peters and we need to get to the bottom of it before that person kills again. The next time that person kill again it could be one of your family members.
