ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- With the streets of the Virgin Islands filled and ripped with allegations about the happenings of the National Democratic Party (NDP) Government, the best place to learn the truth is in the House of Assembly (HOA).

To this end, the four-member Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Opposition will be posing some 60 plus questions to the front bench Ministers of Government. The questions will be posed by the Opposition pit pulls Hons. Julian Fraser RA, and Andrew A. Fahie, both former Ministers in the previous Virgin Islands Party (VIP) administration.

Questions to NDP Ministers

According to the order paper of the sixth sitting of the second session of the second House of Assembly, questions will be asked about the controversial Ag. Police Commissioner David Morris on his hiring and probation practices.

Mr. Morris, a UK contract officer, has been under fire from the time he arrived in the Virgin Islands with many police officers claiming that he favours the United Kingdom officers over local and Caribbean Officers.  Others have claimed race is the major factor.  However, Morris claimed he is not white.

Other questions include the Financial Protocols, the Ports Project, the East End/ Long Look Harbour project, staffing the new Peebles Hospital, the market value of the Baugher’s Bay water plant, Biwater, a proposed fencing at Her Majesty’s Prison, and money paid out on the then Beef Island International Airport expansion project, among others.

The Parliamentary sitting of Tuesday February 12, 2013, while dominated by questions, will not be the only order of business as a few department reports will be laid on the table. They include the BVI Health Services Authority’s Financial Statements for year September 30, 2010 to September 30, 2011.

In addition, the BVI Electricity Corporation 2005 and 2006 Annual Reports will be laid. The Business of the HOA will also see the reading of a new Bill entitled ‘Police (Amendment) Act 2013’ as well as a new Trade Marks Act 2013.

While it’s unlikely the Parliament business will be completed by Tuesday because of the packed agenda, others will be paying keen attention to Private Members Business where any of the 13 elected members can speak on any vexing topic of the day.

First HOA meeting for 2013 on February 12

With about two and half years left in the life of the second House of Assembly, the sixth sitting of the second session of the second House of Assembly will convene on Tuesday February 12, 2013 at its Chambers in Road Town.

This will be the first meeting for 2013 and the two Opposition pit-bulls Hons. Julian Fraser RA, and Andrew A. Fahie are expected to have questions on the Order Paper.

Over the past year plus in the life of this House of Assembly (HOA) it has come in for some harsh criticism from the public and even a former legislator.

The Public has labeled the House of Assembly as a ‘joke’, the people have lost respect for the highest law making body in the Virgin Islands.

Last year a former Minister Eileene L. Parsons called it “a circus”. There have also been complaints from one of the House Chaplins that members are always late for the starting of HOA sessions.

The meeting is expected to begin at 10 A.M. and will be carried live on CBN channel 51.

Those two crooks from the 1st and the 3rd need to go sit down. Asking the same questions over and over again. Thy need to ask themselves for they asking things that happened under them when they were in power. They just want to make it seems like they care and they doing work. NONSENSE!!..if I was the speaker, I would not have allowed soo many questions in one sitting. This new speaker needs to take a page out of Mrs. Archibald book. She never use to kiss up under them...

I WOULD APPRECIATE IF THE OPPOSITION WOULD LIMIT THESE QUESTIONS AND INCLUDE THIS QUESTION ON BEHALF ME AND MANY:
I want The right-hon.Julien Fraser,to again ask the Premier to explain to the Citizens, how His Excellency the Governor, unconstitutionally and unlawfully made a LAW in the BVI without going through parliament, and the Governor published that Unlawful and Unconstitutional Law,in the Public Gazette, calling that Unlawful-LAW- "The Police Service (Delegation of powers) Regulation)2012;which now gives the Acting Commissioner of Police,Unlawful powers, under section 97(1) of our V.I Constititon:And which,as a result, the COP,took the powers of the Police Service Commission and also the Powers of the Governor: These are powers given to the Po.S.C and the Governor,by Her Majesty-The Queen,as guaranteed in section 96 and 97 of our V.I Constitution:Too many questions for now.Take out some and ask this one!
