UPDATE: No rivalry in VI Showtime Band – Mr Roger N. Frank
‘VIBE’ formerly ‘VI Showtime band’ has their eyes on international markets and playing an even bigger role in the tourism industry of the Virgin Islands according to Manager Roger N. Frank.
He explains, “Years ago, we understood that the Territory’s exposure comes from the impressive tourism product that we sell and our magnificent financial services industry. Therefore, the logic is that, if we want to bring exposure to the Territory via music, our product will have to complement these two triumphant industries, as their success hinges on the Territory’s reputation and image. That meant we had to become VIBE – an entity that is grounded in the community, yet comparable internationally.”
He further stated, “Our second reason for the change can be summed up with one word – evolution! Any musician serious about the craft understands that the industry is rapidly changing, and that survival and relevance can only be maintained through adaptability.”
As the new band unveiled their new brand last evening March 14, 2014 in the heart of Tortola, at Craft Alive Village in the presence of several senior functionaries of the VI Government, Mr Frank noted that their music is now fashioned to take on a new taste and style while not losing the VI flare.
Key persons in VIBE band are TJ Henley, Raul Sprauve, Mario Drigo, Renrick Massac, Leesean Smith, Glen Lamothe, Ramone Sprauve, Zolan Brown, Kevin Sweeney and Kerry Nichols and according to Frank most of the key person were also members of the former VI Showtime. He stated that some persons had also left.
At the occasion which had a mixture of different air, Mr Frank was not oblivious to the fact that the announcement of the disbanding of VI Showtime band would have not come as a shock to many. “This move will come as no shock, as it was a process that was long in the making, and we are very happy to announce today that the transformation is complete,” he stated.
He also firmly stated that contrary to what was being said there is no rivalry involving the band. “I am stating this point clearly this Friday evening, because we wish to put this misconception to rest once and for all,” he said.
VIBE with the organizing of a more professional operation will soon launch a website and will also release an album. They will also be releasing their first and newest single under the VIBE ran today Saturday, March 15.
VIBE’s management was high in their praise to Ms Jenel S. Lettsome and her team at Design So Simple who has made the transformation one of a high standard and quality.
Eyes were searching the venue last evening for members of the ‘Showtime band’ who Mr Frank said were among the many invited to the occasion but none were visible. Members of several other local bands were present among the audience which was also attended by Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith, Minister for Communications and Works and Fourth District Representative Honourable Mark H. Vanterpool, First District Representatives Honourable Andrew A. Fahie and Eighth District Representative Honourable Marlon A. Penn. Members of the BVITB were also present including Ms Lynette L. Harrigan.
