Our young people need to slow down. They drive too fast and on top of that they drink and drive and don't like seat belts. I have young adults and I always have to beg them to slow down. Maybe it is just something ingrained in the young..that need for speed. Just sorry to see a young life taken.

Looks like the top of the vehicle was submerged maybe the enforcement of seatbelt may not be all that positive on an island surrounded by water. Hope the occupant survived.

He was catapulted from the vehicle likely not wearing a seatbelt, which may have saved his life. My condolences to his loved ones

If he was in Seat Belt it would have been worse, Death at the scene. The Top of the Vehicle was flat and he his head would have been in water and to get him out would have been tough. Either way sad to say, he stand a better chance with the medical team fighting for him how he was outside the vehicle. Sorry if it came out the wrong way. The person with the jumbee comment is right, something is odd around this place. Two accidents in one day and its happening all the time. Thats one concern another if the solar flares are messing with the vehicle computers, either way something is not right.

First I would like to express my sincerest condolences to the family of Nathaniel Wheatley. This is indeed a very unfortunate and tragic incident for all of you and I would not even want to imagine what you have had to endure last evening and what you are nduring today. All I can do is send positive energy and strength to all of you.
@Citizen I am going to have to disagree with you here. Injuries sustained during a roll-over crash NOT wearing seat belts are the worst. Have you ever put sneakers in a dryer? Well you get the idea. You are thrown about the inside of the vehicle making contact with everything inside, PLUS every unsecured object inside the vehicle. The passenger is then most often flung violently from the vehicle AND have the vehicle roll ON TOP of them causing crushing injuries. The 3 point seat belt system that are in modern cars today was created/invented by a Swedish engineer named Nils Bohlin and introduced by Volvo in 1959. They never patented it and shared it with all other vehicle manufacturers...Why because it was proven to save lives. Indeed there are situations where some will argue that someone would have been saved if it was not for the seat belt, such as a vehicle bursting into flames after an impact. HOWEVER there are devices such as seat belt cutterrs..and yes a knife or scissors would work too. Another VERY important thing to remember/know is The Law of Inertia (Newton's first law of motion)...an object remains in motion unless acted upon by an outside force. In plain terms...if a car is moving at 50 mph then EVERYTHING inside of the car is obviously in motion as well (50 mph) if the car hits something (outside force) the car rapidly decelerates BUT the other objects in the car (passengers, groceries, shoes etc) are still in motion. When the passenger hits the steering wheel or dashboard...guess how much mph they hit them at? Yup 50 mph. The internal organs and the brain to are moving at the very same velocity INSIDE the body and when the body hits the dashboard (outside force) yes guessed it right...they hit the ribs and cranium at 50 mph causing massive internal and brain injuries. So to say that seat belts don't save lives or that seat belts would have been worse is not only your opinion but one that I believe is wrong. I base my statements on the countless vehicle crashes I have responded to over my 22 year career. I also train emergency responders (EMT's Rescue Technicians etc) and have had to review many case studies over the years as well. I am sure that there must be tons of videos on youtube that anyone can check if they wish to see animations. Seat belt do saves lives! Please remember that distracted driving (texting, phone, eating, facebook live videos etc) can contribute to motor vehicle crashes (I am in no way implying this was the case in this situation) and injuries even loss of lives. So please buckle up, make sure the little ones are in car seats and booster seats and keep your eyes on the road. Take care ya'll

          Peace and Blessings

RIP and condolences to Nathaniel family. A major problem needs fixing and VINO please go look at it and bring public cause you could save a lot of life. There's a death trap in District 7 after you pass the corner just after the hlscc marine center heading to Town. That part where they been laying pipes. Now it's finished and they pave the road back but the edge of the road is not paved properly there's a long stretch of dip off the edge of the road where they laid the pipes. Me and my sons almost lost we life there this week. I traveling heading to town in my car and a taxi bus was passing me heading east almost in the middle of the road. I couldn't dodge the taxi because one swerve and my car would have been right off and my whole family dead. The taxi barely missed hitting me. I give god thanks for my life today. I'm asking to please go take a look at how they paved the edge of the road and leave a stretch of dip so drivers are aware and we can avoid any fatality. It's very high and you have to make a gamble with your life if another driver is commanding too much of the road or even if someone looses control you're bound to be critically injured. I don't think the laying of pipes and poor finishing are a good bargain over everybody life.

This is so true. Not to mention the pieces that they are yer to finish. That big gap around there just as you pass the college but before you reach down into Brandiwine Bay. That big hole in the road. The government need to do better man. Then the uneven "paved roads" in Brandywine Bay leading up the hill to go to Sofi Bay......strupessssss

Yes, the road is a mess at Slaney with laying the pipes. Last week the east bound traffic was detoured up Slaney Hill only to find that road is in need of much repair and dangerous. This week the east bound traffic was detoured up Mcnamara Hill and there they had laid water pipes and never resurfaced the road, it was dangerous to drive on. As we came around the hospital so glad we did not meet an ambulance or private car that was trying to get to the Emergency entrance. Where is the coordination between PWD, electricity, W&SD and telecommunication companies? Where is that "40 miles of good roads" was promised?

    1) make sure Vehicles are well service.
    2) unnecessary speeding is actually cut back can save driver/s life and nearby people etc.
    3) technology distractions isn't a distraction point blank.

it is a crying shame that a fatlity has to occur for the Powers that be to pay attention to the nonsense Public Works doing with our roads. Yes people need to drive with care but geeze man, they leave these roads in such deplorable states and often times don't look back for a long time after. The road in the vicinity of the college is another accident waiting to happen. Public Works cut the road up Soldier's Hill to fix a pipe since Novebmer, They patch it up and four months later a big precipice is now across the road. You all HAVE to do better man, people life at stake. MARK, do your job and see to it that the road works are transitioned back to a safe state in a timely manner. Enough is Enough.

The patch work, dig up, leave for weeks/months, patch back, to dig up again nonsense has to stop.

By the way, drivers taking that same route heading west, please place each tire to the left and right of the patch of dirt from kicking dirt straight down behind you on the other cars.

      Common sense

The good always depart faster and younger. RIP. Well the roads are bad point blank. With that there's increased risk of fatality if any little mishap. Perhaps a guard rail would help somebody one day. Those high sidewalks heading sea cows bay too is a disaster waiting to happen. Elevator hill in District 3?need fixing before another accident. The whole roads need fixing. Everyday you see work men fixing and laying stuff and when they done the road is worst than before.

There's another terrible spot up hope hill in District 8 from the corner come straight before you reach the hang out heading east direction. District 6 up fort hill always crowded with vehicles and the road has a big pot hole and dip that you can't escape them taxi bus and truck coming off the hill. District 5 heading Fahie hill looks like the potholes are souvenirs with no intent of fixing. Drive very slowly everyone. We have cow roads less than 10 miles per hour or expect the unexpected.

RIP to Nat and condolences to his family.

If anyone was there to witness it they would know it has nothing to do with govt or the roads. He was speeding and tried overtaking multiple cars when he hit and that was that. Why drive like that especially without your seatbelt. Such a tragedy and totally avoidable. We dont need govt to be involved in everything,we need to really slow down on these roads.

Sidenote, please observe the road closure signs and stop risking lives by not going over the hill and taking chances on the flat when you know traffic coming from town are driving more right knowing the road is closed and not expecting traffic also avoiding the dug up left side!
