ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Word reaching our newsroom early this morning, September 27, 2016 is that Mrs Geneva Lettsome, the mother of First Lady Lorna G. Smith OBE and Minister for Communications and Works Hon Mark H. Vanterpool (R4) among others, has died at age 88.

Mrs Lettsome, known to many as ‘Miss G’, was hospitalised for more than a week.

She was regarded by many as having a ‘big heart’ and being a mother to all in the community.

Hon Vanterpool confirmed his mother’s passing this morning in a Facebook post.

“To a loving, legendary mom who passed away early this morning, from all her family and friends in the BVI and all over the world, may her soul Rest In Peace. Geneva Lettsome has touched many lives near and far and she will certainly be missed and fondly remembered. Thanks to everyone for your prayers during this difficult time,” Hon Vanterpool stated.

Mother of First Lady, Works Minister hospitalised

Mrs Geneva Lettsome, the mother of First Lady Lorna G. Smith OBE and Minister for Communications and Works Hon Mark H. Vanterpool (R4), is said to be hospitalised.

According to reports, Mrs Lettsome, known to many as Miss G, has been hospitalised at Peebles Hospital for more than a week now.

"Asking for prayers for my dear mother who is very ill and has been hospitalised. Thank you," reads a Facebook post by Hon Vanterpool on September 21, 2016.

Mrs Lettsome, 88, is the mother of nine, including businessman and medical doctor Mr Heskith Vanterpool, Owner of UMI Fashions Deborah Reynolds, Maggie Baltimore, Barbara Masac, Ross Masac, veteran educator Oliver Hodge, and Marina Richardson-Hugan.

    Mrs Lettsome will be in my prayers and thoughts. She did well by her children. I had no idea that she was the mom to all those notable and accomplished individuals. She must have been one hell of a mom when she was raising her kids.

    Lord all you melleeish in this place saw. A prominent woman is ill; her children must have worked out her care, etc. So what if the First Lady gone to a boat show. She will be back, God's willing, to do her part, whatever it may be.

    Ms. G, prayer warrior and faithful servant, thoughts and prayers go out to you for a speedy and full recovery. It is all in God's hand. He has the power to heal, to perform miracles and to restore health as he did for Hezekiah.
