ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Miss Guyana Alicia N. Bess was crowned the new PJD2 Carnival Queen in St Maarten in the early hours of today, April 28, 2014, defeating a field of 17 other contestants in the process.

Ms St Maarten and Ms Antigua copped the first and second runner up positions respectively in this year’s pageant which was held under the theme “Confidence Beauty and Respect”.

Virgin Islands representative Rosanna Chichester did not place despite what was felt to be a strong performance.

Contestants competed in Introductory Dance, Swimwear, Cultural Costume, Talent, Evening Wear and Question and Answer segments.

Several persons complained about the length of the pageant which went on for over 7 hours and ended sometime after 4AM and felt the guest performances should have been shortened.

The Miss PJD2 Caribbean Queen Pageant has been hosted by PJD2 Radio Station for the past nineteen years and is held as part of St. Maarten's 2014 carnival celebrations.

Miss BVI to contest St Maarten’s PJD2 Pageant next month

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Reigning Miss BVI Rosanna K. Chichester is brimming with confidence and filled with excitement ahead of the PJD2 Caribbean Queen Pageant to be held in St Maarten next month.

The highly anticipated event will be making its grand return to St. Maarten’s Carnival on April 27, 2014 at the Carnival Village and serves as part of their 45th anniversary celebrations.

“I think I have a great chance in being the next PJD2 successful queen,” Ms Chichister told Virgin Islands News Online in a recent interview.

The PJD2 Caribbean Queen Pageant was restarted this year in St Maarten after a brief hiatus of some years and will feature 20 other contestants from several countries around the Caribbean.

Ms Chichester noted that the St Maarten Pageant Committee contacted the local Miss BVI Committee to extend an invitation for her participation and she gladly accepted the offer.

According to Ms Chichester, she has been preparing for next month’s pageant since the beginning of the year and has also been conducting practice sessions with her team of supporters.

“I’ve been practising really hard, especially with my talent piece” she related. Fans can look forward to something particularly exciting as the reigning Miss BVI said her talent piece is expected to be a very dramatic one that had never before been done in the Caribbean. She expressed gratitude for CCT’s support of her talent.

Ms Chichester encouraged fans to continue to offer their support in her quest at another crown and thanked those that had continuously supported her along her journey.

To UMM, what happen you coward? put your name up there and lets talk about who God is walking with. The only how you must put people down is if you putting their names on your prayer list then again God might not even hear your prayer until you leave your gift at the alter and go apologize to Rosanna STOP JUDGING PEOPLE! The girl has a better heart than you that's for sure.

I am being real...it's called freedom of speech. I don't see the need for me to apologize. I am fully aware of the scriptures....you cannot serve two masters. I suppose she was in a christian jouvert in St. Marten as well??

Miss UMM - I will now call you "Miss Cleo" again I say go read the bible and find a scripture that says judge not or you will be judged and God judges the heart and not the outward so relax and stop hating I can feel it in your comments. You are bitter about something and you need prayers.

I sat and viewed this "hot mess" of a pageant only because Miss BVI was participating and without a doubt she did an exceptional job! As usual, there was the "host country advantage" but nonetheless I was still proud of her performance.
    • Been there (28/04/2014, 21:46) Like (0) Dislike (15) Reply
The talent she did last night was the same identical talent performed by St Thomas carnival queen. The difference is Miss BVI l did not perform it as well as the stt carnival queen.
      • Really (29/04/2014, 01:27) Like (7) Dislike (3) Reply
I find your point to be irrelevant as who performed a talent that you deem "identical" shouldn't be an issue as both contestants did not perform the same piece at the same competition. The song that Ms. BVI danced to fit the theme of the message she wanted to send and if the carnival queen's performance inspired her to put her own twist on the performance then so what? Several contestants have sang the same song at various competitions so does that mean that they should avoid doing it because past contestant may have performed it at some point? if it speaks to you, then by all means go ahead and do it. Now that you've gotten that off of your chest, how do you feel?

Did you know that was Miss BVI's talent to the show last year?....so maybe you should say St Thomas got it from her
      • To Been There (29/04/2014, 07:54) Like (11) Dislike (0) Reply
It is obvious that you are clueless. Ms. BVI performed her talent last year (2013) by playing the cello and dancing in the aerial silks for which she won best talent. STT Carnival Queen was so inspired by Ms. BVI's performance, that prior to competing (2014) she called and enquired for Ms. BVI to provide assistance with the talent. MS. BVI was the first and STT followed suit. I am sure that Ms. BVI was grateful that she could be an inspiration to other aspiring ambassadors.

The show finish at 4AM, can you imagine. The guest performance was a waste of time, who put a band to do a full set in the middle of a queen show. Lawd them need help. Miss BVI did represent and gave a stellar performance in each segment.

Lets be real... look at the outgoing queen compared to the new queen... really? Regardless of what, pageants are about beauty because elegance and class is expected. There were more contestants that looked more like the outgoing queen than the winner!! She looks so local... bias judgments lose sponsors!

I watched it online. She really did perform good. Her talent was amazing. Sorry Miss Guyana, it wasn't a fair show. Oh and the show ended after 4a.m.

You people are pathetic, your "queen" did not measure up to the competition...she performed average in her segments....please stop finding excuses. She recycled her talent...which btw should have been more dynamic.
Please have a seat and let her ride out the last of her time...

I have heard that pageantry is about consistency and if the performance of Ms. BVI was to be taken into consideration then I have no doubt that she should have won/placed as she was flawless in every segment. The contestant for the host country was horrible and there was no way she should have been first runner up but almost, if not all of the judges were from SXM so ah well, you know how that goes. Better luck next time. I am glad Dominica didn't place either, no bragging from them so I am fine with that.

That is not true, I dont think she executed her talent well, please be truthful so that she can brush up on her weak areas. She seemed to be struggling at some instances to me, I watched the show from beginning to end. I think she did a very decent job overall, I enjoyed her costume and evening wear the most.

it was clear to me that Miss BVI did put on an excellent show not only that she was so poise, graceful, elegant and gorgeous, her performance was notably exceptional this is not what the Caribbean are used to. Did you noticed how the female host was rushing her entrance in the talent segment ? The male host complimented her performances before he asked her the question which she answered best out of all the girls. I think the male host could not have helped to compliment her so after he realize what he did he started to give the other girls a little compliment.

well well, open ah you eye mi son. The pjd2 is a set up every one knows that St Martin didn't deserve a thing so in order to make her a winner they give her best costume which should have gone to Miss BVI. Now tell me if this is not a set up? I don't understand what was Guyana talent but a little child could have done that so they create a winner who would not be able to show up at events , which is Guyana and in so doing Miss St Martin will get to reign as pjd2 queen. Does this scenario make sense it sure does to me. No wonder I fall asleep on my computer waiting them long hours to see the result. slick judging.
