Miss BVI Sharie B. deCastro chases another pageant crown
- Leaves these shores on June 24 for Miss Carival in St Vincent and the Grenadines
Reigning Miss BVI and Miss Caribbean World Sharie B. de Castro heads off to St. Vincent and the Grenadines on Monday June 24, 2013 to participate in the Miss Carival Pageant where she hopes to capture further success, pride and glory for the Virgin Islands.
The Miss Carival Pageant will be held on Friday June 28, 2013 in Victoria Park and deCastro has nothing else as her focus but to return to these Virgin Islands with the crown and another level of experience in pageantry.
The Miss Carival Pageant is one of 3 pageants that Miss British Virgin Islands must attend as part of winning the title.
"Preparations for the pageant are going well. I look forward to competing and doing my best with the hope of making the Virgin Islands proud," she told Virgin Islands News Online.
In an exclusive interview with Virgin Islands News Online, Ms deCastro said that for her talent piece she is prepared to do what she loves to do, poetry, and hopes that will be good enough to inspire the St. Vincent and the Grenadines audience and read well with the judges. The segments in the pageant are Introduction (not judged), Swim Wear, Talent, Evening Wear and Interview. Her swimwear and evening wear were inspired by Damion Grange and created by Carlos Alberto.
"I am eternally grateful for the financial support of Botanic Service Station, Honourable Julian Fraser and Honourable [J.] Alvin Christopher. However, due to the high costs associated with entering pageants such as these, I have had to use personal funds to make up for various related expenses" admitted Ms deCastro.
She heads off with some key persons by her side; Chaperone Damion Grange, Makeup Artist Kassandra Malone and Manager and mother Mrs Violet deCastro but is also look forward to the usual physical and spiritual support of her fans and supporters.
"I look forward to the continued support of my fellow BVIslanders and supporters. It would be my heart’s delight to see a large BVI contingent at the show but if they are unable to be there in person, I crave their presence in spirit and appreciate every word of prayer," she told this news site.
Ms deCastro, a school teacher, said her absence from school will not have much of an effect on her students as they have already completed their End of Year Examinations.
But just what are her expectations of participating in the Miss Carival Pageant? "Although with each competition I gain valuable experience and lasting friendships, of most importance for me is the opportunity to represent the Virgin Islands in an ambassadorial position as Miss British Virgin Islands. It enables me to compete with delegates from 9 other Caribbean countries with the singular focus of representing my home to the best of my ability," said the VI flag carrier.
Prizes for this pageant include 1st place - US$4,300.00, 2nd place - US$1,300.00 and 3rd place- US$ 700.00 among other incentives.

She is simply the best among the crop this year and keep in mind that Dominica's delegates at these pageants are doing very well.
I am listening.
On another note do you see Miss Jamaica Universe, Miss Bahamas Universe or any of those high class queen coming to this so call sophisticated Miss Carival. They won't be caught dead in that show.
To all you Caribbean people living in the BVI and calling down Miss BVI you need to go back to your country. There is no place in the BVI for you haters.
