Miss BVI Sharie B. deCastro chases another pageant crown

- Leaves these shores on June 24 for Miss Carival in St Vincent and the Grenadines

Reigning Miss BVI and Miss Caribbean World Sharie B. de Castro heads off to St. Vincent and the Grenadines on Monday June 24, 2013 to participate in the Miss Carival Pageant where she hopes to capture further success, pride and glory for the Virgin Islands.

The Miss Carival Pageant will be held on Friday June 28, 2013 in Victoria Park and deCastro has nothing else as her focus but to return to these Virgin Islands with the crown and another level of experience in pageantry.

The Miss Carival Pageant is one of 3 pageants that Miss British Virgin Islands must attend as part of winning the title.

"Preparations for the pageant are going well. I look forward to competing and doing my best with the hope of making the Virgin Islands proud," she told Virgin Islands News Online.

In an exclusive interview with Virgin Islands News Online, Ms deCastro said that for her talent piece she is prepared to do what she loves to do, poetry, and hopes that will be good enough to inspire the St. Vincent and the Grenadines audience and read well with the judges. The segments in the pageant are Introduction (not judged), Swim Wear, Talent, Evening Wear and Interview. Her swimwear and evening wear were inspired by Damion Grange and created by Carlos Alberto.

"I am eternally grateful for the financial support of Botanic Service Station, Honourable Julian Fraser and Honourable [J.] Alvin Christopher. However, due to the high costs associated with entering pageants such as these, I have had to use personal funds to make up for various related expenses" admitted Ms deCastro.

She heads off with some key persons by her side; Chaperone Damion Grange, Makeup Artist Kassandra Malone and Manager and mother Mrs Violet deCastro but is also look forward to the usual physical and spiritual support of her fans and supporters.

"I look forward to the continued support of my fellow BVIslanders and supporters. It would be my heart’s delight to see a large BVI contingent at the show but if they are unable to be there in person, I crave their presence in spirit and appreciate every word of prayer," she told this news site.

Ms deCastro, a school teacher, said her absence from school will not have much of an effect on her students as they have already completed their End of Year Examinations.

But just what are her expectations of participating in the Miss Carival Pageant? "Although with each competition I gain valuable experience and lasting friendships, of most importance for me is the opportunity to represent the Virgin Islands in an ambassadorial position as Miss British Virgin Islands. It enables me to compete with delegates from 9 other Caribbean countries with the singular focus of representing my home to the best of my ability," said the VI flag carrier.

Prizes for this pageant include 1st place - US$4,300.00, 2nd place - US$1,300.00 and 3rd place- US$ 700.00 among other incentives.

I saw in our local Vincentian newspaper that Miss BVI and Miss Dominica will be butting heads again for Miss Carival. I love my country but I give my full support to Miss BVI. Don't know the other contestants' abilities but I have seen Miss BVI's. Don't worry Sharie I am positive the Vincentian public will love you, just make sure you ace that interview and you're home free...take my word for it...interview, interview, interview.

They tooo thief...that's why dont encourage any of our girls to go down to those islands to participate in any show. They do not leave the crown come from those countries up there. Congrats Shari. We know what you can do and it's obvious those judges do not know what is talent and poise. Pure nonsense does go on in those pageants. Oh well, I guess being friends with the premier of STV daughter paid off.

I bet my last cent that I have at the bank that Ms Dominica will win the Ms Caribbean Jaycees in Antigua in August.

She is simply the best among the crop this year and keep in mind that Dominica's delegates at these pageants are doing very well.

      I am listening.

It is interesting that Miss BVI supporters can now call "cheat" Why not say that she was simply outperformed. She has to now grow from this experience, if not she will not be able to perform at Miss Universe. I like Sharie but I will be frank in saying she has A LOT of limitations to overcome if she is stand a chance. She is short, not necessarily pretty, and not the best when it come to modeling. Stop being sore losers and instead show her where she can improve. One thing is for sure you cant fake your way through Miss Univerese

The fact remains...Dominica always prepares their girls for regional pageants hence they are always on top in these pageants. BVI and the other countries need to take a page off Dominica's book...Congrats to Miss Dominica...thought she was outstanding in the Miss Caribbean World and clearly outperforming her competitors at the Miss Carival...it's just the beginning for this beauty...stay grounded and humble

All of you who saying she did not deserve the Miss Caribbean World Crown just shut you *** None of you who on here blogging BS cannot be from here. She won fair and square...She has all it takes to compete outside of Tortola..You all who says she does not darn out a place. The blasted show was a set up just like the other shows in the Caribbean our girls attend. Listening to the interview, she clearly won. This show was already rigged for Miss Dominica. I keep telling us stop ending our girls to these shows. I was in Grenada last year, took my fast self went to the island next door for a show one of our youths was participating in. Never saw more cheat in my life. The girl from here and Barbados were clearly in the top and none of them were placed. They left the crown in the island. The girl came out with pins in her dress (which you could clearly see, did not answer her question AT ALL, tripped on stage more then once, and ha no talent and she won the show..Stay from those caribbean island shows. I have been to plenty of Miss Carivals and its the same results over and over again...All you negative bloggers of Miss DeCastro, leave the girl alone..she did us proud and will continue to do so. You all come in our country and all some of you do is diss our people and what we are trying to accomplish. If you all cant say anything good about our young people who this land belongs to, then dont say anything at all.

I agree with you 100%. Do you see the ugly dresses that win best evening wear. The Caribbean shows are 40 years behind BVI shows. They cannot go to any international shows and win with those ugly dresses. They stomp all over the stage with no kind of poise. They don't even have a category for Miss poise. It is high time that BVI understand that they will never win in caribbean shows unless they dress like them and stomp over the stage like them.
On another note do you see Miss Jamaica Universe, Miss Bahamas Universe or any of those high class queen coming to this so call sophisticated Miss Carival. They won't be caught dead in that show.
To all you Caribbean people living in the BVI and calling down Miss BVI you need to go back to your country. There is no place in the BVI for you haters.

It is amazing the amount of negativity and hate you all spew at this young lady. And for what? Did she not meet the criteria for these pageants to be a runner? Where does it say in the applications that you have to be a certain height, weight, and have a pretty count of 9 or higher to run?? As far as I know for miss bvi there is an age and nationality requirement. You all need to stop it. Her being our queen isn't embarrassing. Reading the hate and ignorance that comes out the majority of your mouths is!!!
