UPDATE: Miss BVI 2013-2014 makes 1st visit to public school
While her first inspirational session was done with high school girls of the St. Georges High School on Tortola, the first public school reached was the Robinson Memorial Primary School in Virgin Gorda.
There again she and her team were welcomed with opened arms on February 26, 2014 by the school’s Principal Ms Norma Creque, teacher Ms Vanterpool and the pupils themselves.
Ms Chichester followed the belief of the learned, parents, teachers and other community members that the key to addressing many of the social and other ills today is to start with instilling certain values and morals in children from a very tender age, hence her well-engaged and participatory discussions with the students about the importance of studying their school work in order to achieve their goals in life.
Among the activities with the pupils a question and answer session was facilitated. “It was amazing to hear some of the questions these children had to the tip of their tongue. It was really a privilege for me to have had the opportunity to be an inspiration to them,” she told Virgin Islands News Online.

UPDATE: Miss BVI gets green light for sessions at public school
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Students of Public Schools across the Territory can now rest assured of an opportunity to have their direct interaction with Miss BVI 2013-2014 as the Department for Education has given the green light.
As reported by this news site in an earlier article today, the VI Queen has taken the first jump at fulfilling her commitment to be an inspiration to youths in the education system. However she was forced to start with the schools in the private sector as she had received no response to her January 10, 2014 letter to the department for education to enter the public schools.
Ms Chichester, through her Personal Assistant Mr. Andy Antonio Jeffers had complied with regulations and procedures set by the Ministry for Education and Culture. Her request was acknowledged hours after her first interaction at the St Georges Secondary School was published on this news site.
In the first circular of 2014 issued to public schools dated January 7, 2014 Ag. Chief Education Officer Mrs. Jillian M. Douglas-Phillip, had warned Principals of public schools to pay attention to procedure and policy the main being that of any individual, group or agency must have written permission to make any form of donation or visitation to Public Primary and Secondary Schools.
Miss BVI’s request was submitted three days following this public reminder and today’s response came as great news. According to Mr Jeffers the next step is to consult with the various Principals to ascertain the best possible dates for the programme.
Miss Chichester is very upbeat about her fulfilling her mandate as the reigning Miss BVI and sees her interactions with school students as a very special venture for her.

Miss BVI Rosanna K. Chichester an inspiration to young girls
- The reigning queen determined to make an impact before passing on her crown later this year.
PALESTINA ESTATE, Tortola, VI – When Miss BVI 2013-2014 Rosanna K. Chichester entered the compound of the St Georges High School at Palestina Estate yesterday afternoon February 18, 2014, the welcome was one that can be described as no less than awesome.
The sounds of applause and cheers filled the classrooms of the High School as Ms Chichester made her way to Form 1 G where eight young girls were anxiously awaiting her arrival to share their half hour of fame with one of their local icons.
But for the local queen it was more than the fame and love. “As the 2013-2014 Miss BVI queen I want to be able to say at the end of my tenure of wearing this prestigious crown, that I have lived up to expectations, that I would have been an inspiration and that I can continue to be a role model in the Virgin Islands (VI),” she told Virgin Islands News Online.
The eight young female students had a healthy half hour interactive session with the queen and the topic of bullying was discussed. The topic was one that was seen as well fitting for the girls who are now in the very early stages of their High School pursuits.
Ms Chichester’s Personal Assistant Mr Andy A. Jeffer told this news site they have made the conscience decision to move forward with the plans to reach all the schools across of the VI. “We have been waiting on a response from the Department of Education as it relates to the government schools but time is quickly going and she (queen) is determined to do this, before her term comes to an end,” said Mr Jeffer.
The session at the St. Georges High was the first school visited by the VI Queen. “The private schools have responded so far so we decided to start there,” Ms Chichester said.
The queen’s mother Mrs Jennifer Chichester was equally by her side supporting her. Miss BVI has been actively involved in the Cancer Society of the (BVI) which has been her platform among several other community related events and activities.
