CIL to host health expo & day of testing

- participation from a number of local & overseas agencies expected

Caribbean Insurers Limited (CIL) will on May 30, 2015 host a health exposition and day of testing in collaboration with local and overseas medical institutions and agencies during which it is expected that a wide range of testing and medical services will be available to the public.

The event is the brainchild of Director of Sales and Marketing at CIL, Simone T. Monsanto.

The activity will take place at the Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall between the hours of 9:00am and 3:00pm. In addition to the testing services, there will be musical entertainment. There will also be a booth serving light breakfast compliments of Burke’s Garage Limited, Alphonso’s Garage, VI Motors and Meridian Construction.

Recognising that the health of a nation is its wealth, Mrs Monsanto and CIL thought it fit to bring together health institutions in the territory and beyond with a view to making available for that day a range of medical testing services. This is the first time in the Virgin Islands that there will be a health expo with so many participants offering testing and various medical services.

The BVI Health Services Authority and the Ministry of Health will both be a part of the contingent. The Ministry will be promoting its '10,000 steps per day programme' and will have pedometers on sale.

Pavia Hospital of Puerto Rico will be checking glucose and blood pressure as well as providing information on nutrition.
Puerto Rico's San Jorge Children’s Hospital will give free haemoglobin and glucose tests for kids. Children will be tested once accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The BVI Health Services Authority will be assisting with free breasts exams, cholesterol testing and health and wellness presentation.

Monsanto told Virgin Islands News Online, “We are going to work with the community to promote a healthier BVI. A way of giving back to our community. I also want the public to come out and support the local booths, and there will be doctors and specialists to answer any questions. The booths will have giveaways and prizes. We would like the parents to bring their kids out for the testing.”

Participating booths are the Ministry of Health, Bougainvillea Clinic, Medicure, Eureka, Vanterpool Enterprises, B&F Medical, Qwomar, Dr Bain, Riteway, Hewlette Health and Wellness, Chic Gourmet, Social Security Board, the Wellness Institute, Sole Spa, One Stop Mall (HD), Sivam Home and Health Care & Medical Supplies, Corvel Corporation, Patricia Daway/Personal trainer for Save the Seed Energy Centre, Proudly African, VI Medical Clinics, Sage Roots and many other health shops.

Persons can contact Simone T. Monsanto on 340 7879 for more information.
