ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- “As Minister for Communications and Works I wish to advise that I am not prepared to take the resolution to increase the re-numeration package for the BVI Ports Authority Managing Director to Cabinet,” were the emphatic words of Minister for Communications and Works Hon. Mark H. Vanterpool today March 15, 2013.

This follows an alleged attempt by the Ports Authority Board to increase the package of the Managing Director, Claude Skelton-Cline without Cabinet’s approval.

The BVI Ports Authority Board has since been asked to reconsider the resolution to increase the Managing Director’s package.

Speaking to reporters at a short press conference following the Contract Signing at the Office of the Premier today between Government and FDL Consult Inc. for the Infrastructure Rehabilitation Project, Hon. Vanterpool said he was not prepared to take the resolution to cabinet, which he said he learnt about from the press but has since let his objections known to the Managing Director.

"I was surprised by the resolution," said Hon. Vanterpool. "I learnt about the resolution through the press, to be truthful."

When contacted by Virgin Islands News Online, Mr Cline confirmed he was aware of Minister Vanterpool's decision.

He said the Minister would not need to contact him on the matter but rather the board since it would be the board to make their decision on the matter.

The Office of the BVIPA Board Chairman, Mr Edward DeCastro said he (DeCastro) was not available to take a call.

he has a radio programme, and other irons in the fire. He is new to a job he is ill-equipped or trained for. Why does he deserve a raise?

Instead of doing what the people elected them to do, they are wasting time and energy making confusion with each other when they are not busy indulging in their personal and private pocket filling and fund-raising pastimes. Behave, or else...

Hey all of this is DAMAGE CONTROL that he is trying to fulfill at this time. Just like Mitt Romney 47% of the poor will not vote for him. My message to Hon. Mark is if you are not aware of the decisions made behind your back and the initiative was not going to go to Cabinet for approval, imagine what else is being done behind your back, in front of your nose and all around you. No matter the decision at this point, the damage is done and show that the people who is hired under NDP administration is out to sink this country with all sorts of scampish deals and it will come back to haunt you all in the next General Election.

Get on the road and do what? The only saving grace for PPA is Shaina and I'm sure by now she has come to her senses. NDP will put Shaina up against the Bummer in the 1st for 2015, tell them I say so!

This clearly shows me that the director was really looking for a raise and he got the job last december according to the info. so in the space of 3 months he need more money than what he getting? What about the people who getting $25,000 a year and have to pay rent, car loan, food, supplies for their kids for school, and travel (alot of families take their kids on holiday esp. if they are doing excellent in school). $105,000 and you still asking for more, do you even have conscience.

so he can say NO to something... I wish NDP would say NO more often with some of these huge projects we don't have the money or expertise for. Do the basics with civil services. They would get more respect if they said NO more often.

I know most of you who blogging well know that the elected ministers do not know all. The Chairman (when caught with his pans down) said he would now take it to cabinet after the leak got out. As a past civil servant have seen some of us bury ministers. They get blame for a lot f things they know nothing about. Cline is not easy and he can talk anyone not anything.

Claud is right. He was quite comfortable until he get to know that the chairman of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission just raise Karia pay to $95,000 for doing nothing, so he demand his board to pay he more. All you need to know faks before you speak. Claud right, he running a whole body ten times the size of Telecommunications Regulatory Commission, why should she who even aint the head get $95,0000, and he settle for $105.000

The Board raised her salary from $65,000 to $95,000 on Mark's instructions. See what he did at Water & Sewage ? same difference. Dr. Smith will sit flat on his a$$ and allow this man to destablize his Government. What a shame.
